Eddy Reynoso, co-trainer and manager of Mexican superstar Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez, is confident that his boxer's skills, experience and level of opposition will propel them to a victory over undefeated WBA super middleweight champion Callum Smith.

Canelo will challenge Smith on Saturday night at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.

Smith, with a record of 27-0 and 19 knockouts, has never faced a boxer on the level of Canelo.

Smith, while clearly lacking the top level experience of Canelo, has the clear edge in size.

In the last two years, Smith's status grew after knocking out George Groves to win the World Boxing Super Series super middleweight tournament.

"The quality that Saul has is beyond any doubt. It is true that Callum Smith has been pushing hard in the last two years, in which he has won belts. However, he has never faced fighters on the level that Saul Alvarez has. It is true that he is a boy who has a lot of technique, strong and brave, so we believe it will be a good fight," Reynoso said to ESPN Deportes.

To deal with the size advantage of Smith, Reynoso revealed that in training they had added the support of heavyweight contender Frank Sanchez, who Canelo used for sparring.

"We cannot fight at a distance with Callum Smith, we have to look for the short range. We have already shown that Saúl is very good at that, because many times in his career he has faced these kinds of difficulties and we have done well," Reynoso said.

Inactivity should not be an issue, as both boxers were last seen in the ring back in November of 2019. In that month, Canelo moved up by two weight divisions to score a knockout of Sergey Kovalev for the WBO light heavyweight title. And Smith went through fire to win a tough twelve round decision over John Ryder.
