On Saturday night in Cancun, Nicaraguan boxer René "Twin" Alvarado (21-3, 14KOs) won a unanimous twelve round decision over hometown fighter Juan Pablo Sánchez to capture the international silver super featherweight title of the World Boxing Council (WBC). The scores were 116-112, 116-112 and 115-113.

Alvarado is back in the hunt after losing his WBC silver featherweight title in May, with an upset twelve round decision loss to division veteran Rocky Juarez. Alvarado started the year off great in February, when he stopped Robinson Castellanos in the ninth round of their fight in Jalisco.

Now he is focused on getting a world title shot at full WBC champion Takashi Miura (27-2-2, 20KOs) of Japan. Miura will close out the year with world title defense against Mexico's Edgar Puerta (23-4-1, 19KOs) on November 22nd in Yokohama.
