Rau'Shee Warren: record, next fight and profile →
Eric Raskin has almost no fond memories of the 2008 Olympics, and particularly of the US team. But Sadam Ali’s return is as good an excuse as any to give these guys another look.
HOLLYWOOD, Florida – What was supposed to be a relatively easy tune-up fight for Rau’shee Warren turned disastrous Saturday. Mexican journeyman Francisco Portillo upset the heavily favored former WBA bantamweight champion by unanimous decision in a six-round fight on the non-televised portion of the Omar Figueroa Jr.-Sergey Lipinets undercard. Warren dropped Portillo in the second round, but Portillo got off the canvas and engaged Warren in a dogfight that the huge underdog won on all three scorecards at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino.
As BoxingScene.com previously reported, Brandun Lee, one of the sport’s most exciting prospects and biggest punchers, will take on Will Madera in a 10-round super lightweight bout Saturday, August 20 live on SHOWTIME from Hard Rock Live at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Fla. in a Premier Boxing Champions event. The newly added bout will serve as the opener to a loaded four-fight SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING telecast that now begins live on SHOWTIME at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.
Hundreds of thousands of boxing fans never gave up Saturday night, even as each round of the dreadfully dull John Riel Casimero-Guillermo Rigondeaux track meet mirrored the previous three minutes.
Carson, California - Former world champion Rau’shee Warren (19-3, 5 KOs) dominated Damien Vazquez (16-3-1, 12 KOs) on his way to a second-round stoppage in their bantamweight showdown. Warren scored his first knockout victory since 2015, after going the distance in his previous eight fights.
CARSON, Calif. — The only three-time Olympian in U.S. boxing history stepped into the ring Saturday night one week after the culmination of the 2021 Summer Games looking to do something he couldn’t as an amateur Olympian — strike gold.
When Damien Vazquez opened his training camp in June, his focus was on a rematch against former champion Juan Carlos Payano. Vazquez dropped an 8 round unanimous decision to Payano in 2019.
