WBC junior welterweight champion Regis Prograis is not convinced that newly crowned WBO champion, Teofimo Lopez, is serious about his retirement - at 25-years-old.

This past Saturday night, Lopez upset the odds by becoming a two-division world champion with a dominating twelve round unanimous decision to capture the WBO title from undefeated Josh Taylor.

In the aftermath, Lopez complained about his compensation for the fight - and believes he should be paid a lot more money to consider fighting again.

Prograis returns to the ring this Saturday night in New Orleans, when he makes the first defense of his title against late replacement Danielito Zorrilla.

A huge favorite to win this weekend, Prograis is very interested in facing Lopez in a unification.

Lopez claims that he received a million dollars for the Taylor bout - which Prograis feels is "terrible money."

On the other hand, Prograis believes Lopez would receive a significant sum of money for the two of them to unify.

“Nah [I don't think he's retiring], I think he’s frustrated. He said he got paid a million dollars to fight [Taylor] - that’s terrible. That is terrible money, so I don’t think he’s going to retire. If me and him fight, he’ll probably get 10 times what he got - so I don’t think he’s going to retire," Prograis said to Fighthype.com.

“There are too many big fights out there for him. I think it’s [a cry for help] right now because you know what he is going through. He still has mental issues now [with the divorce and child custody case]. He can fight for sure, but it’s still like he has things going on. He only made a million to fight the former undisputed champion - it just makes no sense, but I don’t think he’s going to retire. I definitely don’t think he’s going to retire.

“He likes money, his dad likes money, so you know they’re going to come back. They might say they’re retiring right now, [but] that’s probably how he was feeling [at the moment in time]. I think for sure he’ll come back because he can’t walk away from the biggest fight of his life.”
