Madison Square Garden, New York City - Teofimo Lopez (15-0, 12 KOs) blasted out Richard Commey (29-3, 26 KOs) in two rounds to capture the IBF lightweight world title. (photos by Mikey Williams)
Now Lopez is in line to have a 2020 unification with WBA, WBO champion Vasiliy Lomachenko.
Both boxers came out with their jabs in the first round. Lopez had a slight edge, but neither did too much as they were feeling each other out. As they were trading big hooks, Lopez dropped Commey down very hard. Commey got up on very unsteady legs, he was allowed to continue - but then battered with punches against the ropes until the referee waved it off.
