BoxingScene.com first reported on Thursday that a deal was completed for a fight between WBO middleweight champion Andy Lee (34-2, 24KOs) and undefeated top contender Peter Quillin (31-0, 22KOs). The fight is likely going to take place on April 11th, as part of Al Haymon's 'Premier Boxing Champions' broadcast on NBC. Quillin held the belt and made three successful defenses. He was then ordered to face Matt Korobov in a mandatory fight. He vacated the title to take care of some personal matters. Lee and Korobov were then ordered to fight for the vacant WBO crown - and last December in Las Vegas, Lee captured the title with a sixth round stoppage of Korobov.
Billy Joe Saunders, the WBO World Middleweight mandatory title challenger and number one ranked contender, has stepped aside to allow world champion Andy Lee to make a voluntary title defence against Peter Quillin expected to be in New York, and may make his glittering American debut on the undercard. Saunders, the current British, Commonwealth, European and WBO International Champion, and his manager and promoter Frank Warren have allowed Lee to fight the American star next, subject to approval from the WBO, and Saunders will fight the winner - that both hope will be Irish rival Lee - in a huge summer showdown.
BoxingScene.com has confirmed that a deal has been reached for a fight between WBO middleweight champion Andy Lee (34-2, 24KOs) and the man who vacated the crown, Peter Quillin (31-0, 22KOs). Promoter Lou DiBella had to overcome a major obstacle to get the deal done - a mandatory defense owed to Billy Joe Saunders. DiBella was able to work out a step-aside agreement with Saunders and his promoter Frank Warren. Saunders will be in line to face the Lee-Quillin winner.

Sources close to the situation have advised BoxingScene.com that "serious negotiations" are ongoing for an April 11th fight between WBO middleweight champion Andy Lee (34-2, 24KOs) and the man who vacated the crown, Peter Quillin (31-0, 22KOs). If a deal gets finalized, the fight would be paired with Danny Garcia vs. Lamont Peterson, who collide in a 143-pound catch-weight fight. Tom Loeffler, the managing director for K2 Promotions and the engineer of Gennady Golovkin's rise to prominence the past couple of years, read with great interest the latest comments of former WBO middleweight belt-holder, Peter Quillin, who questioned the market value of Golovkin and what he brings to the table financially( https://www.boxingscene.com/quillin-golovkin-bring-much-money-table--85778)
According to former WBO middleweight champion Peter Quillin (31-0, 22KOs), there is no financial reward in accepting a fight with WBA/IBO/WBC interim-champion Gennady Golovkin (31-0, 28KOs). Regarding a potential fight with Golovkin, Quillin says the opponents of the dangerous Kazakhstan puncher are not getting paid a lot of money [at least in comparison to what Quillin makes].
