Patrick Teixeira: record, next fight and profile →
Former IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook is very eager to capture another world title, this time at junior middleweight. Brook returns against Mark DeLuca in the main event of a card being staged in Sheffield on February 8. Sky Sport and DAZN will carry the card. The return will mark Brook's first bout since December of 2018.
The recent massive earthquake which struck Puerto Rico earlier this week has left many on the island without power and water. In an odd way, it also leaves Patrick Teixeira and Brian Castaño with a few more days than expected to come to terms for their ordered title fight. The pair of junior middleweights and their respective teams have spent the better part of the past 30 days negotiating for a World Boxing Organization (WBO) ordered title fight. The bout was ordered last December during the annual WBO convention, where Brazil’s Teixera (31-1, 22KOs) was upgraded from interim to full 154-pound titlist after previous champ Jaime Munguia vacated in favor of a run in the middleweight division.
As quickly as Patrick Teixeira was named its new junior middleweight champion, the World Boxing Organization (WBO) has already assigned a mandatory challenger. The newly crowned 154-pound titlist from Brazil—who was upgraded from the interim title status he claimed in a 12-round win over Carlos Adames on Nov. 30 in Las Vegas—will be ordered to next face Argentina’s Brian Castaño (16-0-1, 12KOs), with the two camps to begin negotiations in the coming days.
Patrick Teixeira couldn’t have picked a better time to turn in the best performance of his career. Four days after handing Carlos Adames his first loss and picking up an interim title, the Brazilian junior middleweight was upgraded to “full” champion by the World Boxing Organization (WBO) during the ratings portion of its annual convention Thursday morning Wednesday evening stateside time) in Tokyo, Japan.
It was a scenario that could prove unkind to any boxer on a rival promoter’s show. Patrick Teixeira was cut under both eyes and his fight with Carlos Adames threatening to slip away, before turning things around in a flash and ultimately pulling off an upset win in their interim title fight.

Brazilian southpaw Patrick Teixeira (31-1, 22 KOs) captured the interim WBO Junior Middleweight World Championship with a unanimous decision victory against Dominican contender Carlos Adames (18-1, 14 KOs) at The Chelsea inside The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas and live on ESPN+.
Patrick Teixeira survived two cuts and a major gut check to earn the biggest win of his improving career. A momentum-swinging 7th round knockdown provided the margin of victory as Teixeira scored an upset 12-round decision over Carlos Adames in their interim junior middleweight title fight Saturday evening at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Frampton, McCreary, Valdez Weights Photos Gallery - Andres Gutierrez was removed from Saturday’s main event against former featherweight world champion Oscar Valdez, as he weighed in at 141 pounds, 11 pounds above the contract weight. Featherweight contender Adam Lopez (13-1, 6 KOs), from Glendale, Calif., stepped up to replace Gutierrez, and he will be in the opposite corner at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas in a WBC super featherweight world title eliminator. Lopez was originally set to defend his Jr. NABF featherweight title against Luis Coria, but he jumped at the opportunity to face Valdez, who will be making his super featherweight debut.
Oscar Valdez and Carl Frampton venture into new territory, with the pair of former featherweight titlists both debuting in the junior lightweight division. The two appear in separate bouts in Saturday evening’s ESPN+ livestream from The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas, Nevada, although Mexico’s Valdez (26-0, 20KOs) might see a delay in his journey following Friday’s weigh-in. The two-time Mexican Olympian weighed 129.8 pounds for his first fight since abandoning a featherweight title reign which featured six successful defenses.
