The "new" Universum Box Promotion joined forces with Legacy Sports Management for a show at a drive in movie in Duesseldorf (Germany) last night. German super middleweight and former WBA interim-champ Vincent Feigenbutz has once again changed his trainer. He will now, according to boxen1.com, be trained by Eduard Mchel and Kosta Patoulidis. Feigenbutz, who challenges IBF king Caleb Plant on February 15 in Nashville, was first to be trained by veteran and living legend Ulli Wegner but he wound up in the hospital with a broken leg. Then Torsten Schmitz was hired as trainer but that collaboration ended almost before it started due to what appears to be a lack of planning and coordination as Schmitz also trains Sophie Allisch in Berlin while Team Feigenbutz, based in Karlsruhe, had plans for a training camp in the Slovenian mountains.
Spanish super welterweight Kermin Lejarraga (29-2) is now official challenger for the vacant EU 154 lb title. Co-challenger is his compatriot Isaac Real (20-3-1). The EBU have set January 8 as deadline for purse offers/agreements.
Gilleleje, Denmark - Super middleweight Patrick Nielsen (30-3) returned and won a unanimous decision over Frenchman Armen Ypremyan (9-2-2) over eight bloody, hard-fought rounds with more wrestling than boxing. It was scored 79-73 twice and 80-72 and one can only assume that the judges gave points for Nielsen´s wrestling skills as much as for his punches.
German heavyweight Tom Schwarz (25-1) will have his second fight, after losing to Tyson Fury in June in Las Vegas, on the date of September 28 at home in Magdeburg. Schwarz headlines a SES promotion billed as Back to the Roots at the Town Hall. Who Schwarz will be facing will be announced in the near future. The undercard features heavyweight prospect Peter Kadiru (4-0), light heavies Adam Deines (18-1-1) and Michael Eifert (5-0), super middle Elvis Hetemi (13-1) and lightweight Nenad Stancic (5-0).
Q Boxing Promotion in Denmark announced today two new signings in comebacking super middleweight Patrick Nielsen (29-3) and middleweight Landry Kore (10-0-1). Former world title challenger Patrick Nielsen (29-3) could be heading for a comeback after 18 months out. Nielsen was last seen in a lucrative MMA bout where he was stopped in one. As boxer Nielsen have back to back losses against John Ryder and Arthur Abraham - but the loss to Abraham was close and controversial.
English welterweight Josh Kelly, 8-0, has been named mandatory challenger for EBU welter champ David Avanesyan, 24-3-1. The EBU have set April 30 as deadline for private negotiations and will after that call for purse bids. However, it appears that Avanesyan will first take on the man he beat to win the title, Kerman Lejarraga, 27-1, in a rematch but if the EBU is in agreement with this is an open question.
