On July 16th Juan Manuel Marquez cleared the way for a third fight with rival Manny Pacquiao by stretching out Columbia’s Likar Ramos inside of one round at that Plaza de Toros in Cancun, Mexico. Set to take place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada on November 12th, Marquez’s challenge for Pacquiao’s WBO welterweight title is one of the year’s biggest fights and it has been a long time coming.
Maybe it was being cooped upon a transcontinental flight from France to New York.
Top Rank's public relations guru Lee Samuels has advised BoxingScene.com that company CEO Bob Arum, and company President Todd duBoef, are still in the process of reviewing lucrative offers from both HBO and Showtime. Trainer Freddie Roach has yet to watch last Saturday's junior welterweight bout between Juan Manuel Marquez and Likar Ramos - but he's heard a lot about it - and none of feedback has been positive. Marquez stopped Ramos in the first round with a single punch, which didn't appear to land that flush. Questions have been raised as to whether or not Ramos took a dive and simply arrived that night to collect an easy paycheck. Ramos had a delayed reaction to the punch and once he hit the floor he was laid out, eyes closed and motionless, for several minutes.
Pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao has denied the widely circulated story that he had fired adviser Michael Koncz.
WBA/WBO lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez believes he is ready to face Manny Pacquiao for a third time on November 12 at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. Marquez previously fought Pacquiao to a draw and lost a close split decision. He returned last Saturday in Cancun and stopped Likar Ramos in the first round. By Michael Marley - One minute, 47 seconds of the first round. Promoter Bob Arum could not have scripted it better as Juan Manuel Marquez, age 37 but still a dangerous counterpuncher, used one countering right hand to blast out Colombian southpaw Likar Ramos (now 24-4) in the opening round of their scheduled 10 round junior welterweight bout in Cancun. Now it's on to the big bonanza, the third bout between Manny Pacquiao and Juan Ma, on Nov. 12 in Las Vegas. This KO 1 certainly lights match to the promotion for the trilogy bout. "Dinamita" Marquez extended his Hall of Fame pro record to 53-5-1 and notched his 39th knockout. "I happened to get a great punch on him and he couldn't take it, sometimes that is the way fights go," Marquez said. "I will prepare well for Pacquiao and I want him to do that also. We can give the fans a war. (Floyd) Mayweather is so defensive a fighter...but with Pacquiao, it's going to be a war," Marquez said.
