LAS VEGAS – Oleksandr Gvozdyk didn’t even need two rounds to take out Isaac Rodrigues on Saturday afternoon at T-Mobile Arena.

The former WBC light heavyweight champion dropped and stopped Rodrigues early in the second round of their scheduled eight-round, 175-pound bout on the Canelo Alvarez-Jermell Charlo undercard. Gvozdyk’s overhand right knocked Rodrigues to his knees 39 seconds into the second round.

The 38-year-old Brazilian veteran then fell to his side. He got up after referee Tony Weeks counted to eight, but Weeks determined that Rodrigues shouldn’t continue.

The official time of the stoppage was 54 seconds of the second round.

Ukraine’s Gvozdyk (20-1, 16 KOs) won a third consecutive fight since he resumed his career February 11. The 36-year-old Gvozdyk previously announced his retirement following a 10th-round, technical-knockout loss to Russian knockout artist Artur Beterbiev (19-0, 19 KOs) in their light heavyweight title unification fight in October 2019 at Liacouras Center in Philadelphia.

Rodrigues (28-5, 22 KOs) lost by knockout or technical knockout for the fourth time on the 18th anniversary of his pro debut.

Earlier Saturday, Mexico’s Gabriel Gollaz Valenzuela stopped Colombia’s Yeis Gabriel Solano with a body shot in the sixth round of their scheduled eight-round welterweight bout.

Valenzuela (28-3-1, 17 KOs) dropped Solano (15-3, 10 KOs) three times in all before their fight was halted. Solano lost a third straight fight, but he lost by knockout for the second time.
