Ohara Davies: record, next fight and profile →
OHARA DAVIES will now face WBC international super-lightweight champion Paul Kamanga at o2 Arena on June 23. The controversial Londoner now faces the African after Josh Leather pulled out of their ?ght claiming he was taking break from boxing.
Ohara Davies warmed up for his next fight next month with a points win. The Hackney lightweight was fighting at welterweight at Elland Road in Leeds, as part of the undercard to hometown hero Josh Warrington’s IBF featherweight world title challenge against Lee Selby, after two late changes of opponent.
Lyon Woodstock improved his unblemished ledger with another points win. The Leicester super-featherweight was set to defend his WBO European title at Elland Road in Leeds. Woodstock, 24, instead boxed over eight rounds against former Josh Warrington opponent Edwin Tellez, as part of the supporting cast to the Leeds man’s IBF featherweight world title challenge against Lee Selby, exclusively live on BT Sport and BoxNation.
Ohara Davies is determined to showcase his improvements when he makes his long-awaited comeback on the Lee Selby v Josh Warrington card at Elland Road on Saturday. The Hackney super-lightweight (16-1-KO13) is preparing for his first fight under a new promoter – live on BT Sport – and hopes to prove he’s matured inside the ring as well as out of it.
IT WILL NOT have gone unnoticed among the boxing fans who keep their eyes permanently peeled on the lookout for fight announcements that we were able to reveal a fistful of potential humdingers over the course of the last week. The WBO world middleweight title defence by Billy Joe Saunders against Martin Murray at the 02 Arena on June 23 will now be handsomely supported by two contests that will certainly capture the imagination of the fight fraternity and beyond.
Two exciting domestic match-ups have been confirmed for the undercard of Billy Joe Saunders’ WBO Middleweight World Title defence against Martin Murray at The O2 on June 23. Heavyweight sensation Daniel Dubois (7-0, 7 KO’s) takes on Hatfield’s Tom Little (10-5, 3 KO’s) for the Vacant English Heavyweight Championship and undefeated Guisborough Super-Lightweight talent Josh Leather (13-0, 6 KO’s) squares off with highly-ranked Hackney man Ohara Davies (16-1, 13 KO’s).
Ohara Davies makes his long-awaited return to the ring when he takes on Frenchman Christopher Sebire over ten rounds at Elland Road on May 19th. Davies, 25, has won 16 of his 17 professional contest and will be aiming to fight his way into World Title contention after a frustrating few months. The talented Londoner has been out of the ring since his explosive sixth-round stoppage victory over Tom Farell in September.
While Ohara Davies fully intends to cut out the shenanigans that have got him into bother in the past, he knows that boxing is show business and there are one or two character traits that could well resurface come fight week as his return to the ring at the 02 Arena on April 14 closes in. The super lightweight is a natural showman, but he now acknowledges that he doesn’t always have to be the one playing the baddie, as he explains in his latest Fighter Diary…
OUR MAMMOTH SHOW at the 02 Arena on April 14 is now firmly on the horizon and it promises to be a real treat for true fans of the sport. It is a card that is potentially compelling from top to bottom, one that is stacked with proper fights that could go either way and one that will have huge bearing on how the rest of the year plays out.
British Champion Jack Catterall is confident he would beat Ohara Davies, should they meet this year. Catterall analysed his new stablemate on the latest BoxNation Podcast and replied to Davies' recent comment about being the most well-known Super-Lightweight in the country.
