Golden Boy Promotions announced today the signing of No.1- WBA ranked British professional boxer Ohara “Two Tanks” Davies (25-2, 18 KOs). Representing London, Davies is the mandatory WBA Super Lightweight challenger to Rolando “Rolly” Romero.

“Golden Boy is up there with the biggest promotional companies in the world of boxing, so I’m over the moon to sign a promotional deal with them,” said Davies.

“Also, to work with Oscar De la Hoya who was one of my childhood boxing heroes is great, and to be able to link up and win my first world title under him as my promoter is amazing. I’m going to be looking to make a statement and knock Rolly Romero out. From then on, I’ll be looking for the biggest names possible and being signed with Oscar De La Hoya. I believe they will deliver on that.”

BoxingScene.com recently reported that the WBA had delayed the previously scheduled purse bid hearing for Davies’ mandatory title shot versus Romero. The matter was previously slotted to take place earlier today but is now indefinitely postponed as the sanctioning body will review medical documents provided on July 21 by Romero’s team.

“We are in the business of making world champions, and we will make Ohara Davies one of them under our promotional family,” said Chairman and CEO of Golden Boy Promotions Oscar De La Hoya. “He has the grit, determination and bad blood against Romero to fuel him as he campaigns for the WBA World Title very soon. Keep an eye out for him!”
