LOS ANGELES – Jack Reiss will be in control of keeping things clean for this weekend’s bantamweight title fight. The veteran ring official will serve as referee for the Showtime-televised main event this Saturday, which airs live from Dignity Health Sports Park. The bout pits France’s Nordine Oubaali (17-0, 12KOs) in the third defense of his WBC bantamweight title versus former four-division champion Nonito Donaire (40-6, 26KOs).
LOS ANGELES – Nordine Oubaali and Nonito Donaire are finally one day away from meeting in the ring in a fight more than a year in the making. Both boxers made weight for their oft-rescheduled WBC bantamweight title fight, which headlines a Showtime tripleheader Saturday evening from Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.
LOS ANGELES – Nonito Donaire is old enough to have fought at Dignity Health Sports Park through all of its name changes. This weekend will mark his fourth career appearance at the infamous War Grounds, fighting in his third different weight class at this location. Saturday marks his attempt at becoming a three-time bantamweight titlist, which will require his unseating WBC champ Nordine Oubaali
LOS ANGELES – Nonito Donaire has always sought to make history, though never really the kind to where he would be defined by his age. The former four-division champion is at that point in his career heading into his title bid versus WBC bantamweight champ Nordine Oubaali (17-0, 12KOs). A win on Saturday will ignite a third title reign for Donaire, who—at age 38—will also break his own record in becoming the oldest boxer ever to claim a piece of the bantamweight throne.

It was never the intention of Nordine Oubaali to enter the biggest fight of his career on the heels of his longest inactive stretch to date. The silver lining, however, is that the defending WBC bantamweight titlist gets the fight he has always desired.
By Cliff Rold - It’s an old adage. The shortest point between two spots is a straight line. The straight line was in place. COVID made a lot of things crooked. In April 2020, fresh off winning the World Boxing Super Series, unified WBA/IBF bantamweight titlist Naoya Inoue (20-0, 17 KO) was slated to face WBO titlist John Riel Casimero (30-4, 21 KO).
Back in April of 2013, Nonito Donaire suffered the first defeat of his pro career when he lost a twelve round unanimous decision to Guillermo Rigondeaux in a super bantamweight unification.
At 38-years-old and with a great career, Nonito Donaire does not see retirement in the near future because he still has a goal to meet. The dream for Donaire is to collect all of the bantamweight championships before he considers hanging up his gloves.
