Naoya Inoue Eyes More Titles: I Hope To Win Whole WBSS!

Newly crowned WBA "regular" bantamweight champion Naoya Inoue (16-0, 14 KOs) is really looking forward to joining the World Boxing Super Series tournament.

Already in the tournament, are IBF champion Emmanuel Rodriguez, WBO champion Zolani Tete and WBA "super" champion Ryan Burnett. One of the champions will walk away with all of the gold at the end.

On Friday night at the Ota City General Gymnasium in Japan, Inoue made his bantamweight debut in spectacular fashion when he demolished British veteran Jamie McDonnell in the first round.

Inoue had already captured title in two other weight divisions and is moving up very quickly through the pound-for-pound ranks.

The Japanese superstar is very surprised with the outcome.

But, he felt a lot stronger during training camp and certainly when he started throwing punches in the ring.

“For those who think it ended too quickly, I’m sorry.  I’m surprised myself with this result. I’d trained extremely hard for this and I’m satisfied right now. While I was in the locker room warming up, I felt I was moving well and I could throw heavier punches. So I knew I could knock him out if I landed them. I’m relieved that I won," Inoue said.

Prior to the bout, McDonnell had been undefeated for ten years and this was the first stoppage loss of his pro career.

Now Inoue is very excited to move forward with the WBSS and he's eager to face the other champions in the tournament - especially Tete and Burnett.

“I believe I was able to showcase what I can do well enough. I’ve received an offer for the WBSS. I will be in it. There will be some of the strongest boxers in the world like Tete and Burnett. I will train even harder and hopefully I can win it all in the tournament," Inoue said.

Inoue is the real deal- he has supreme confidence in his ability, and he doesn't just wail away like a Deontay Wilder - he stalks his opponents and cuts off the ring more like a Gennady Golovkin. I would say,…
