Liam Smith is headed to the Strip for his next fight.

The former WBO super-welterweight world champion will challenge Jaime Munguia for his old belt on July 21.

Smith, who is promoted by Frank Warren and managed by MTK Global, had been set to face Sadam Ali for the title on May 12 at the Turning Stone Resort & Casino in Verona, New York.

Due to a sudden allergic reaction, ‘Beefy’ was forced to pull out of a clash with ‘Real World Kid’ Ali, giving unheralded yet undefeated replacement Munguia, who is now 29-0 with 25 early, the chance to step in and shock Ali, displaying intimidating power to stop the outgoing king inside four rounds.

And Smith will go in against Mexico’s Munguia at the Hard Rock Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

“It’s a big fight for him, a tough fight, but it’s a fight that he needs,” Smith’s promoter Warren said recently.

Munguia is promoted by Oscar De La Hoya and Golden Boy Promotions, the company behind the co-promoted rematch between Saul Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin.

“Obviously their minds have been on the Canelo-Golovkin fight,” he added.

“That’s been the problem with getting the date and getting the fight finalised.”

It is understood that the fight will be aired on HBO in the States, while BT Sport are expected to pick the clash up in the UK.
