Michael McGurk: record, next fight and profile →
Fight Academy will head to Scotland on Friday February 18th for a night of boxing, in association with top Scottish promoter, Sam Kynoch. With boxing shows currently suspended in January, passionate fans North of the Border get a welcome return of the sport at a venue that always delivers a great atmosphere – the Trump Turnberry resort in Ayr.
Anthony Yigit (22-1-1, 7 KOs) will face Sandro Hernandez (15-7-3, 10 KOs) as the slick southpaw returns to action on May 4 at the Fraport Arena in Frankfurt. Yigit outpointed Mohamed Khalladi on February 16 at the CGM Arena in Koblenz following a brave attempt at the IBF World Super Lightweight title in his World Boxing Super Series Quarter-Final clash with Ivan Baranchyk.
Iain Butcher is back in action on Friday – and has ambitions to have some big domestic showdowns in the near future if he is victorious. Butcher (18-4) fights live on iFL TV at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow, and if he comes through this week’s bout, Butcher wants to take on more of the best of British.
JOHNNY GARTON WILL make a first defence of his British welterweight title against Chris Jenkins at the Royal Albert Hall. The Pexican collected the treasured Lonsdale belt following a thrilling encounter with Gary Corcoran in October - stopping the Wembley man in the 11th round - and he now faces the tough Welshman on March 8 when boxing makes its return to the historic South Kensington venue.
Prince Ranch Boxing's unbeaten heavyweight prospect, Kye Brooks (4-0, 3 KOs) returns to the ring, December 1, 2018, at The Scottish Rite Theatre in San Antonio, Texas, as part of a stacked undercard for Kendo Castaneda (14-0, 7 KOs) vs. Gilbert Venegas Jr. (10-0, 6 KOs), co-promoted by TMB & PRB Entertainment and Roy Jones Jr. Promotions.
Unbeaten light-middleweight Michael McGurk is determined to hit the ground running at The SSE Hydro in Glasgow on Saturday night. The 24-year-old Scot has overcome a broken hand and fights for the first time this year on the World Boxing Super Series card headlined by Josh Taylor vs. Ryan Martin and Ryan Burnett vs. Nonito Donaire – live on DAZN.
Kieran Smith will join two other Scottish fighters on what is arguably the biggest stage of their careers to date. The trio –– the others being Michael McGurk and Stephen Tiffney –– have been confirmed to be appearing on the undercard of a world title doubleheader. Smith, 25, was last in action in Glasgow in August, alongside Tiffney, while undefeated McGurk will break a 12-month hiatus on his return.
The same gym that produced Jeff Horn could soon have another world champion boxer in its midst. Irish-born Dennis Hogan, who trains at Glenn Rushton's Stretton Boxing Club, has been elevated to No.2 in the WBO's super welterweight rankings. It means Hogan's next fight, against the No.3-ranked Englishman Jimmy Kelly next month at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, is essentially a world title eliminator.
