Las Vegas, Nevada - Andre Berto has called Floyd Mayweather's personality into question. He says the pound-for-pound king that boxing fans follow in the press and on Showtime's 'All Access' reality series - is not the same guy he "personally" knows. Mayweather will defend his WBA/WBC welterweight titles against Berto on Saturday night at the MGM Grand. The fight tops a four bout Showtime Pay-Per-View card.
Both of the main event fighters for Saturday night's Showtime PPV took turns trading verbal jabs with each other. Andre Berto, a massive underdog, will challenge Floyd Mayweather Jr. for the WBC/WBA welterweight titles at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Mayweather has taken several pot shots at Berto - stating the former two-time champion looked up to him as "an idol."
By Jake Donovan - It was billed as the grand arrivals for all of the Showtime Pay-Per-View participants for this weekend’s show at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Still, the throng of media and fans (and fans posing as media) on hand for Tuesday’s session were there to witness Floyd Mayweather stroll through the doors to kick off Fight week for what he insists will be the last ever bout of his Hall of Fame career. If it’s any consolation to Andre Berto, he’s not the only longshot in town this weekend. There are many who believe Mayweather has as much chance of sticking to retirement plans as Berto does of winning on Saturday night. In fact, more attention has been paid to whether or not fight number 49 for Mayweather will in fact be in, than to the matchup itself. Don’t expect Berto to get too upset over that. It can even be argued that he has everyone right where he wants them—that’s assuming he really cares what anyone thinks at this point.
LAS VEGAS - The countdown to "HIGH STAKES: Floyd "Money" Mayweather vs. Andre Berto" continued Tuesday afternoon as Floyd Mayweather and Andre Berto made their Grand Arrivals at MGM Grand in Las Vegas before their fight this Saturday, Sept. 12 live on SHOWTIME PPV® (8 p.m. E/5 p.m. PT) from the MGM Grand Garden Arena. In what is expected to be the final fight of his illustrious 19-year career, boxing superstar and pound-for-pound king Mayweather (48-0, 26 KOs) will put his undefeated record and WBC and WBA Welterweight World Championships on the line against power-punching, two-time welterweight world champion Berto (30-3, 23 KOs).
IBF world welterweight champion Kell Brook has accused Floyd Mayweather of “playing it safe” by deciding to fight Andre Berto in what Mayweather insists will be his last fight. Unbeaten Mayweather (48-0-KO26) is the heavy favorite to win in Las Vegas, with Berto (30-3-KO23) having been defeated three times in his last six fights. By overcoming Berto as most people expect, Mayweather will equal former heavyweight champion Rocky Marciano's record of 49-0 and establishing himself in the history books of boxing.
LONDON - Superstar Floyd Mayweather is adamant that his fight with Andre Berto this weekend will be his last. The pound-for-pound king is set to hang up the gloves after his 49th fight, live and exclusive on BoxNation, admitting that he wants to get out of the sport while he has all his faculties intact. “Number 49 is my last fight,” said Mayweather. “No one is in my shoes. My health is more important. If you stick around anything too long, anything can happen. I'm not really worried about losing, but I want to have a sharp mind. You can make a lot of money, but you still want to be able to talk, walk, and have a sharp mind.”
MGM Grand, Las Vegas - WBC/WBA welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (48-0, 26KOs), while not naming the entities or individuals in question, has confirmed that he received some significant offers to continue fighting. BoxingScene.com reported a few weeks that Showtime/CBS was attempting to negotiate a three fight contract extension with Mayweather. Showtime Sports head Stephen Espinoza denied those discussions had taken place [at least at that moment in time].

Andre Berto realizes he is part of an extreme minority that thinks he’ll defeat Floyd Mayweather Jr. on Saturday night. Berto believes, however, that he has what it takes to become the first professional fighter to beat Mayweather when they square off for Mayweather’s WBA/WBC welterweight titles at MGM Grand in Las Vegas (Showtime Pay-Per-View; $74.95 in HD; 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT).
Larry Merchant WON'T be watching Floyd Mayweather fight Andre Berto on Saturday night ... because the legendary boxing commentator says that any Mayweather fight that doesn't involve a higher level of opponent of middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin is a total waste of time. Merchant was out in L.A. recently when we, of course, had to ask for his expert opinion on the fight in Vegas this weekend.
