Former four division world champion Juan Manuel Marquez (56-7-1, 40KOs) would not rule out the possibility of a fight with Miguel Cotto (40-5, 33KOs), also a former four division world champion, if the right terms were in place.

The idea of the fight first came about when Cotto's trainer, Freddie Roach, called Marquez 'the perfect opponent' for the Puerto Rican star's next return.

Marquez, 42-years-old, has been out of the ring since a May 2014 twelve round decision victory over Mike Alvarado. The boxer had planned several return dates, but he was never able to get them in place due to an ongoing issue with his knee.

There is no guarantee that Marquez will ever fight again. But if he did, there is some interest in facing Cotto.

"It would be an interesting fight," Marquez said on Golpe a Golpe. "It would be a good fight, a competitive fight. Cotto is a great fighter and the important thing here would be the weight, and if the fight is held at 147 pounds then I would have no problem with that.

"But first I have to think carefully about my injury. I was in rehabilitation and everything went pretty well, and two I have to see how I feel physically and what my family says because family is very important for me. I want to see what my my children, my wife, people close to me and my friends also think."

Cotto was in the ring last November, when he lost a twelve round unanimous decision to Saul "Canelo" Alvarez.

Roach says his fighter can still get down to 147-pounds. Cotto came in at 153.5 [below the junior middleweight limit] for two of his three middleweight fights. Marquez has never weighed higher than 144.5 for any of his welterweight fights.

To avoid the possibility of Cotto being a lot bigger than him, Marquez would require a rehydration clause for the following day.

"We could make 147 pounds when we step on the scale before the fight, but we would have to cap the [weight for] next day, put a cap on it because the next day he can gain 20 pounds, and that is a factor in his favor that would play against me," Marquez said.

"We would put in a cap for 153 pounds for the day of the fight. He is coming off from being a middleweight champion but always weighed in at 153."
