ATLANTA – Batyr Akhmedov wasn’t surprised when he learned Gervonta Davis agreed to fight Mario Barrios for a title Akhmedov believes he should own.

By Cliff Rold - The mission of the team around Gervonta Davis has been clear. Put butts in seats. Create a pay-per-view star. The former they’ve been doing with regularity in multiple stops across the United States. Last October, they made their first play for the latter and with pay-per-view the in-ring risk is escalating.

ATLANTA – This was nothing like Gervonta Davis’ previous trip to the scale the day before a main event at State Farm Arena. Davis made the 140-pound limit on his first attempt Friday afternoon for his 12-round title fight against Mario Barrios. The significantly taller Barrios also made weight on his initial try for their Showtime Pay-Per-View main event Saturday night.

Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe was alongside Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s flawless ride fighting his way to becoming a five-division champion. Ellerbe is spearheading another similar operation with intent to guide Gervonta Davis in becoming a champion across multiple divisions.

LAS VEGAS – It’s cute. That’s Teofimo Lopez’s perspective on Gervonta Davis moving up two divisions to challenge Mario Barrios for his secondary WBA 140-pound championship on Saturday. The undefeated, unified lightweight champion claims he knows the real reason Davis decided to take his next fight at junior welterweight rather than the lightweight division within which he also holds a WBA secondary championship.

Pick It: TBRB #9 at 140 Mario Barrios vs. TBRB #2 at 130 Gervonta Davis (Saturday, Showtime PPV, 9:00 PM EST) - 26-year old Jr. lightweight titlist Gervonta Davis (24-0, 23 KO) hasn’t had any issue delivering power so far. Will it carry up the scale? We find out Saturday as Davis jumps two divisions to test the waters at Jr. welterweight against 26-year old Mario Barrios. Barrios is considerably taller and has a chance to break through in a big way.

By Keith Idec - ATLANTA – The favored ‘A’ side of this pay-per-view show will find himself in a no-win situation Saturday night. If Gervonta Davis knocks out Mario Barrios, Davis’ detractors will dismiss Barrios as a paper champion cherrypicked by Davis because the undefeated knockout artist didn’t want to fight his legitimate threats in the lightweight division. But if Barrios beats him, the masterful matchmaking that has helped build Davis into a pay-per-view attraction and one of the few

ATLANTA – Neither Mario Barrios nor Gervonta Davis can step on the scale at more than 140 pounds when they weigh in Friday afternoon. There is no limit to how much either fighter can weigh, however, when they step into the ring Saturday night at State Farm Arena. Davis didn’t want any weight restrictions placed on Barrios because he doesn’t want fans and media to criticize him for limiting the defending champion in their 12-round title fight.

ATLANTA – It took two press conferences, two episodes of Showtime’s “All Access” and numerous individual interviews for Mario Barrios to say something provocative related to his pay-per-view fight against Gervonta Davis. After listening to Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe and Davis speak Thursday, Barrios delivered a message to them toward the end of a press conference at the Omni Atlanta Hotel at CNN Center.
