Marcus Morrison will get the chance to bounce back from back-to-back defeats later this month.
The Hattersley man succumbed his WBC International Silver middleweight crown to Jason Welborn on points back in March, losing a unanimous decision at the Manchester Arena.
Morrison lost his undefeated record on the undercard to Jorge Linares’ world lightweight title victory over Anthony Crolla.
The 24-year-old then returned on June 30, hoping to get back to winning ways, in a four-round contest against Tyan Booth in Derby.
But Booth tore up the script and outpointed Morrison by 39 points to 38 to inflict a second successive defeat on the Joe Gallagher-trained puncher.
And now Morrison (14-2, 10 KOs) will come back on July 29 at Bowlers Exhibition Centre in Manchester, as part of the undercard to Zelfa Barrett’s return which also features the second pro outing of Stacey Copeland.
There are 11 other fights on the card and it is expected to be a great night of boxing.
IN OTHER NEWS: The World Boxing Super Series is delighted to endorse a brand new song written especially for the Muhammad Ali Trophy. Danish rock star Jesper Binzer, who has sold over a million records, has written “The Future is Now” for the revolutionary bracket-style elimination tournament.
“There could not be a more fitting title,” said Kalle Sauerland, Comosa´s Chief Boxing Officer. “The future of boxing starts now with the World Boxing Super Series where the best fight the best. We are thrilled to work with Jesper and we are proud that he has come up with this masterpiece for the Muhammad Ali Trophy. We look forward to presenting the song, on Saturday and adding it as a part of the World Boxing Super Series story.”
Binzer, who remains a part of the famous Danish rock band D-A-D, made the song as part of a solo project. “I know one of the tournament organizers and when he told me about the World Boxing Super Series project it just struck me,” said Binzer. “I always had a song in my head about facing the future with gloves on and that the future is now. For all those world champions and challengers in the tournament the future definitely is now, so I am glad I can contribute to this fun and exciting tournament.”
