Marcus Browne: record, next fight and profile →
The Artur Beterbiev-Marcus Browne bout officially has a promoter of record. Bob Arum’s Top Rank Inc. won a purse bid Tuesday to earn the right to promote their WBC light heavyweight title fight. The bidding process was conducted virtually by the WBC.
Top Rank and Premier Boxing Champions will go back to the well in hopes of extra time producing a deal between their respective clients. Talks remain ongoing for the ordered WBC light heavyweight title fight between defending champion Artur Beterbiev (also the lineal and IBF champ) and mandatory challenger Marcus Browne, WBC representatives confirmed Wednesday with BoxingScene.com. The fight was destined for a purse bid hearing scheduled to take place this Friday from the sanctioning body’s headquarters in Mexico City but has been postponed to September 28.
Light heavyweight contender Marcus Browne has been relatively quiet for the past two years, but his longtime trainer, Gary Stark Sr., is hoping his charge can change that trend by ending the year with a statement performance – against, no less, the feared, two-belt Russian champion of the division, Artur Beterbiev
The World Boxing Council has revealed that their organization received a communication from Gilberto Ramirez's management, who advised them of his withdrawal from a WBC final light heavyweight eliminator with Marcus Browne - which would have had the WBC's interim-title at stake.
If 29-year-old Gilberto "Zurdo" Ramirez (41-0, 27 KOs), arguably already one of the top 25 Mexican fighters of all-time, has his way as he enters his prime years, he will eventually have a mega-showdown with fellow countryman Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (54-2-32, 36 KOs) before making their way to the Hall of Fame.
Former WBO super middleweight champion Gilberto "Zurdo" Ramirez declared himself ready to face Marcus Browne for the interim-WBC title in the light heavyweight division. The head of the WBC, Mauricio Sulaimán, mentioned that this fight was ordered due to the inactivity of current champion Artur Beterbiev, who has had problems defending due to numerous postponements.
The first super middleweight world champion of Mexican decent, undefeated Gilberto "Zurdo" Ramirez (41-0, 27 KOs) is all in for a potential World Boxing Council (WBC) Interim light heavyweight World title fight against 2012 U.S. Olympian "Sir" Marcus Browne (23-1, 16 KOs).
Top fighters and trainers shared their thoughts and gave predictions on the two main events headlining the blockbuster CHARLO DOUBLEHEADER this Saturday, September 26, live on SHOWTIME PPV (7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT) from Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn., in an event presented by Premier Boxing Champions.
A quick glance at the Hall of Fame-level résumé of Jean Pascal is all the indication you need of his willingness to take on all comers. That desire hasn’t at all changed even with the 37-year old from Laval, Canada currently sitting the driver’s seat. The former lineal light heavyweight king and current secondary titlist finds himself in the position of being the hunted rather than having to go on the prowl. A career resurgence will do that, with Pascal claiming turn-back-the-clock style wins over unbeaten Marcus Browne and former two-division champ Badou Jack in his two most recent bouts.
Jean Pascal-Badou Jack was such a close, entertaining fight that they’re headed for a rematch. BoxingScene.com has learned that Pascal and Jack have agreed to fight again in a light heavyweight championship rematch that probably will take place at some point in May. The Pascal-Jack rematch will headline a card that likely will include another light heavyweight bout between former champion Marcus Browne and Sullivan Barrera.
