Kovalev To Fight Eleider Alvarez, Not Browne; Date, Venue TBA

Eleider Alvarez is headed toward a light heavyweight title fight against Adonis Stevenson’s rival, not Stevenson. Unable to come to a step-aside agreement with promoter Yvon Michel, BoxingScene.com has learned that Alvarez signed a contract Wednesday to challenge Sergey Kovalev for the WBO 175-pound championship sometime this summer. The Kovalev-Alvarez fight will be broadcast by HBO, but the date and venue haven’t been finalized.

Marcus Browne Arrested For Domestic Violence, Twice

According to the New York Daily News, 2012 Olympian and light heavyweight contender Marcus Browne has had two arrests in four months, both on domestic violence charges. The paper states that Browne was arrested Thursday on charges that he tried to bust through the doorway of his girlfriend's Staten Island apartment on March 30 three months after he was accused of poking her in the face with his finger.

Kovalev-Marcus Browne Deal Done for HBO Bout; Date Not Set

Sergey Kovalev will fight another southpaw in his next fight, this time an unbeaten American Olympian. BoxingScene.com has learned that an agreement was reached Sunday for Kovalev to defend his WBO light heavyweight title against Marcus Browne. Their 12-round fight will be broadcast by HBO and will take place in The Theater at Madison Square Garden, the site of Kovalev’s last two fights.
