Eight division world champion Manny Pacquiao has been urged to retire by Philippines President Aquino. He wants Pacquiao to spend his time with his family and focus on his political career as a Sarangani congressman

Pacquiao returned earlier this month in the most financially successful fight in boxing history where he lost a twelve round decision to Floyd Mayweather Jr. He aggravated a pre-existing shoulder injury during the fight and had surgery last Wednesday.

The President is worried that if Pacquiao, now 36-years-old, continues forward with tough fights then he will risk the possibility of ending up like heavyweight legend Muhammad Ali.

“One of the most tragic perhaps was when I saw (Ali) lighting the Olympic torch with his hand shaking,” Aquino said over Bombo Radyo Philippines. “If we will push him (and say) that ‘No, there should be a rematch,’ ‘No, you have to take a gamble again,’ I think we will not be showing debt of gratitude to the person."
