The same boxing weekend in Las Vegas not only produced the final leg of Canelo Alvarez’s Fighter of the Year campaign but also perhaps the best action fight in women’s boxing history.

By Keith Idec - When Deontay Wilder went down during the third round of his third fight against Tyson Fury, it looked like the former WBC heavyweight champion’s nemesis would dominate him again. Wilder already appeared tired by then, an ominous sign for a fading fighter who

Bob Arum didn’t see the controversy that was met with the scoring in Mikaela Mayer’s thrilling win over Maiva Hamadouche. The November 5 ESPN+ headliner saw Mayer prevail by unanimous decision to unify the WBO and IBF junior lightweight titles in a leading Fight of the Year candidate at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas. The fight drew rave reviews, though dulled a bit once the lopsided scores were revealed and announced in Mayer’s favor.

LAS VEGAS – Eddie Hearn couldn’t believe what he heard Friday night. After watching what the British promoter considers one of the most fantastic action fights in the history of women’s boxing from a ringside seat, Hearn expected either Mikaela Mayer or Maiva Hamadouche to win their 10-round slugfest by the score of 96-94. Two of the best female boxers on the planet put forth a duel worthy of the main event platform. WBO junior lightweight world champion Mikaela Mayer (16-0, 5 KOs) defeated IBF champion Maiva Hamadouche (22-2, 18 KOs) by unanimous decision to unify titles Friday evening at The Theater at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas.

Maiva Hamadouche had every reason, however, to believe she had done enough to make their 10-round title unification fight extremely competitive. France’s Hamadouche made Mayer work virtually every second of every two-minute round in an action-packed dogfight that headlined a six-fight card at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas.

Mayer will take on longtime IBF world champion Maiva Hamadouche in a title unification tilt this Friday, Nov. 5 at The Theater at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas. Maiva Hamadouche has accomplished a lot since suffering her lone career defeat in just her tenth pro fight. Among the few boxes she hasn’t checked off during her current win streak and lengthy IBF junior lightweight title reign is the opportunity to unify the belts.

Terri Harper is tipping Mikaela Mayer to win tonight’s world title unification fight against Maiva Hamadouche, but it is not the unanimous verdict in her training camp and she will not be staying up to watch her rival in action.
