As reported a few days ago on BoxingScene.com, former world champion Marcos Maidana (35-5, 31KOs) is very interested in facing WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao in 2015. Maidana is coming off back to back pay-per-view fights with Floyd Mayweather Jr., the WBC/WBA champion at 147-pounds.
Maidana lost a close twelve round majority decision in May and then lost a spirited twelve round unanimous decision in September. Pacquiao is going to defend his WBO world welterweight title on November 22nd against undefeated Chris Algieri in Macau, China.
The tough Argentinian has a lot of options for 2015, including rematches with Amir Khan and Adrien Broner. Maidana is willing to explore the possibility of facing Khan or Broner, but confirms he is far more interested in Pacquiao.
"I have [no opponent] in mind, but Pacquiao is possible. I do not think any other fighter can be better than Pacquiao at this time. There is talk of a rematch with Broner, but I wouldn't really want that. I'll wait to see if I can get the fight with Pacquiao, but we'll wait. I'd like Pacquiao, [Broner and Khan] do not entice me as much, but it's necessary to take a look [at every option]," Maidana told Fox Deportes.
