Olympic gold medal winner Luke Campbell (17-2, 14 KOs) has embraced the idea of a potential fight with Vasyl Lomachenko (10-1, 8 KOs), who captured two gold medals in the Olympic games.
There is some discussion about Campbell potentially signing a co-promotional deal with Top Rank - and the deal involves a three fight pact that ends with a Lomachenko fight.
"There is definitely talk about a potential fight between me and Lomachenko," Campbell told Sky Sports. "This is why I'm in boxing. I'm in boxing to face the best, fight the best, and beat the best."
Campbell has been out of the ring since last September, when he suffered the second setback of his pro career.
He traveled to the United States and lost a twelve round split decision to WBA lightweight champion Jorge Linares.
Lomachenko, who back in December gained a stoppage win over Guillermo Rigondeaux, is going to return to the ring on May 12 at Madison Square Garden in New York City, and Campbell is possibly going to return on the undercard of that event to begin the build for a future showdown between the Olympic stars.
"This is a massive fight. He's a two-time Olympic champion, I'm Olympic champion. He's a world champion, but I want that world title as well," Campbell said. "A fight between me and him, I'm definitely up for. I love a challenge and I think it would be a great fight."
"He's probably pound-for-pound best on the planet, and that's my opinion, so I highly rate him but why wouldn't I want to challenge myself against someone like that? I've got skill, speed, power, heart, and I'll fight anyone."
Before he ever gets in there with Lomachenko, Campbell would like to avenge his career defeats - to Linares and a 2015 decision loss to Yvan Mendy.
"If you put Lomachenko out the window for a second, for me, my first two biggest fights I want, I want to clean my record. I want Mendy. I need to clean that loss. I want Linares. I need to clean that loss, and it's two fights I'm certainly capable, confident that I can beat," Campbell said.
"Then there's another big fight with me and Anthony Crolla. There's three guys right there that are all potentially very big fights, and you've also got Lomachenko waiting there as well."
