Earlier today, BoxingScene.com published a report where Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach was claiming to have received an offer to train WBA interim-heavyweight champion Luis Ortiz of Cuba.
Last month, Ortiz (24-0, 21KOs) picked up his most impressive win to date with a knockout in seven rounds of respected contender Bryant Jennings.
Ortiz is on the verge of landing a world title shot at the winner of the upcoming bout between WBA "regular" champion Ruslan Chagaev and mandatory challenger Lucas Browne.
The Cuban fighter has been ordered to face Russian giant Alexander Ustinov in a final eliminator of sorts.
"He looks good too. I actually have an offer to take him, him and Rigondeaux want to both come together. I like both guys, I like both fighters - I just don't know if I have time. I haven't answered them yet, but there is a request. I have trained heavyweight champions before, but this one might be one of the better ones coming up. The heavyweight division is slowly coming up in the heavyweight division," Roach said.
When reached by phone for a reaction, Ortiz had no clue what Roach was talking about.
"I know nothing about Rigondeaux, but as far as I'm concerned I have no information on that subject," Ortiz told BoxingScene.com/Ringsidefightnews.com.
"I have no information on what Freddie Roach said, and I don't know anything about this. Last time, I told you that my job is being in the gym and to reach the best physical condition of my next fight "
He added - "This week I started working in the gym in Miami. For now I'm doing light work with my coach Herman Caicedo. We will gradually increase the load to arrive in excellent shape for the next fight."
"It seems that now all the coaches want to work with Luis Ortiz ... it's funny, I just want to say that I am happy with the work I have done with my coach Herman Caicedo. If you do not need to repair your car, why take it to the mechanic?"
