Luis Arias: record, next fight and profile →
When Luis Arias looks up and down Daniel Jacobs’ record, he isn’t impressed. As Arias prepares for his own middleweight match against Jacobs on Saturday night, the undefeated fighter from Milwaukee pointed out that he believes the “overrated” Jacobs has gotten too much credit for his most noteworthy wins.

Luis Arias is completely comfortable with his low-profile role entering his fight against Daniel Jacobs. Arias recognizes that as the “A” side of this promotion and the known middleweight with a new HBO contract, the burden is more on Jacobs than him to win when they meet Saturday night in Uniondale, New York.
This Saturday night at the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, New York, British promoter Eddie Hearn will stage the first event of new United States brand, Matchroom USA. The HBO, Sky Sports televised card is headlined by Hearn's first big American signing, former middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs. In the other corner, will be undefeated contender Luis "Cuba" Arias (18-0, 9 KOs), who plans to make a very big statement with a shocking knockout victory.
Former middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs (32-2, 29 KOs) is ready to put on a show when he faces undefeated contender Luis Arias (18-0, 9 KOs) in a 12-round middleweight bout. The event will take place Saturday, November 11 at NYCB LIVE, home of the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale, New York and will be televised live on HBO World Championship Boxing beginning at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT in the US and on Sky Sports in the UK.
Daniel Jacobs was so bewildered by some of the things Luis Arias was saying Friday, the former middleweight champion muted his phone during parts of a conference call to promote their November 11 fight. The unbeaten Arias called Jacobs “overrated,” contended that the cancer survivor was never a legitimate world champion, degraded his first-round stoppage of Peter Quillin and other noteworthy wins on Jacobs’ record, and claimed Brooklyn’s Jacobs has benefited from excessive attention paid to him by the New York media. As perplexing as some of Arias’ assertions might’ve been, Jacobs (32-2, 29 KOs) wasn’t particularly surprised the confident Milwaukee native came at him nearly a month after Arias (18-0, 9 KOs) talked trash throughout the press conference to officially announce their fight.
Luis Arias doesn’t see Daniel Jacobs the way most boxing observers view the hard-hitting middleweight from Brooklyn. Milwaukee’s Arias doesn’t think the man he’ll face November 11 is an elite middleweight. And Arias definitely doesn’t consider Jacobs a legitimate former middleweight champion. “I do feel like he’s overrated,” Arias said during a conference Friday to promote their fight. “I just feel like Danny Jacobs has a lot of things in his story that makes him a lot better. He comes from a big city...
Once his own fight against Luis Arias ends November 11, the next middleweight fight that’ll matter to Daniel Jacobs is Billy Joe Saunders-David Lemieux. Jacobs expects to defeat Arias and then travel to Laval, Quebec, to scout the Saunders-Lemieux middleweight title fight December 16. Brooklyn’s Jacobs (32-2, 29 KOs) hopes to challenge the winner, perhaps in the fight after facing Milwaukee’s Arias (18-0, 9 KOs) at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale, New York.
