Lucas Browne Blasts Out Richard Towers in Five

Hull Arena, Hull - In a battle of undefeated heavyweights in a Commonwealth final eliminator, Lucas Browne (18-0, 16KOs) stopped Richard Towers (14-1, 11KOs) in the fifth round.

The fight did not start off as a fire fight, as some expected. Instead it was a chess match. At the end of the third, Browne rocked Towers with a good counter right and continued to land against the ropes, but the bell rang. Browne was coming forward, being more active in the fourth. At the start of the fifth, Browne once again rocked Towers, very badly, against the ropes. This time Towers went down and he struggled to make it up. He was unable to stay steady on his feet upon rising, and the referee wisely waved things off.

Junior welterweight contender Curtis Woodhouse (20-6, 13KOs) scored a convincing points victory over Lewis Van Poetsch in Hull on Saturday night. Having been heavily knocked out in just four rounds by Derry Matthews in their lightweight bout just six weeks ago, Woodhouse wanted to make a statement back fighting at welterweight. He was given a 59-54 verdict by the referee to get his title hopes back on track.

Super featherweight Rendall Munroe (26-3-1, 11KOs) continued his comeback streak, comfortably winning his six-round contest against journeyman Latvian Pavel Senkovs, with a sole score of 60-55 at the end.
