Erickson “The Hammer” Lubin (21-1) is about a month away from his October 26th fight against Terrell Gausha (21-1-1). The super welterweight showdown takes place at the Sandtander Arena in Reading, PA and will headline a Premier Boxing Champions telecast on Showtime.
This will be the third fight that Lubin trains under the guidance of world class trainer Kevin Cunningham. In February Lubin became the first fighter to stop former super welterweight champion Ishe Smith. He followed up that performance with a 4th round knockout of Zakaria Attou in June. Both fights were televised by Showtime.
Showtime president of sports and events programming Stephen Espinoza was very impressed with what he saw from Lubin and told The Athletic that he was very interested in featuring the Florida native again.
Gausha will be Lubin’s toughest opponent of the year on paper but Cunningham is very confident that his fighter will pass this next test with flying colors.
“Hammer’s having a great training camp for this fight. We’ve been in camp for 6 weeks with 4 to go. He’s having sharp ten round sparring sessions with PBC stable mates Kyrone Davis and Justin DeLoach,” Cunningham told BoxingScene.com.
“I think the fight with Guasha is a tremendous matchup. Terrell’s a damn good fighter and I thought he beat Trout in his last fight. The winner of this fight will be a force to be reckoned with in the junior middleweight division. Hammer’s on a mission to not only win a world title, but our goal is to takeover the division. We have big plans and right now Terrell’s in the way so he has to get dealt with on October 26th.”
Gausha last fought in May when he battled former champion Austin Trout to a split draw. Many observers felt that Gausha deserved to walk away with the victory.
