Erickson "The Hammer" Lubin (20-1) started off his 2019 campaign with a bang and hopes to continue his momentum when he returns to the ring in June.
In February he became the first man to stop former champion and Ishe Smith at the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, Calif. He sent Smith to canvas three times in the first round and once more in the third which prompted Smith's coach to stop the fight after the third round ended. Smith would announce his retirement shortly thereafter.
The Florida native's trainer Kevin Cunningham has advised BoxingScene.com that his charge will return to the ring next month. He is currently training at Camp Cunningham in Southern Florida.
This will be Erickson's second camp training with Cunningham and the veteran trainer is very impressed with what he has seen from his fighter.
"Hammer’s in full camp mode preparing for a late June date. We have been in camp for 4 weeks and everything’s going great. It’s such a pleasure to have an opportunity to help Hammer reach his full potential," Cunningham told BoxingScene.com.
"He’s only 23 years old, tons of raw talent and has power in both hands. My job is to enhance his overall game from a skillset and technique standpoint. I have no doubt in my mind that Lubin will become a champion soon. He’s going to eventually dominate the 154 pound division. Hammer’s totally locked in and preparing to deliver another dominant performance."
Lubin's return is expected to take place either on June 23rd on the Tony Harrison-Jermell Charlo 2 undercard in Las Vegas or on the Jermall Charlo-Brandon Adams undercard in Houston on June 29th. His opponent is expected to be announced in the near future.
