Don’t call 2024 a comeback year for Louisa Hawton. As far as the Australian former two-division titleholder is concerned, she never left.

NEW YORK – Lorraine Villalobos nearly ruined what was supposed to be an important moment Saturday night for Louisa Hawton. Villalobos knocked down Hawton and gave her a much more difficult fight than Villalobos provided a year ago. All three judges still saw the action the same, 95-94, for Hawton, who won a unanimous decision and retained her WBC interim atomweight championship on the Jermall Charlo-Dennis Hogan undercard at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

NEW YORK – Louisa Hawton’s heart is about 11,000 miles away from Brooklyn, where she’ll partake Saturday night in the highest-profile fight of her boxing career. As anxious as she is to showcase her skills on Showtime’s social media channels, Hawton can’t wait to return home to Perth, Australia, to spend the holidays with her children – 12-year-old Eli and 9-year-old Estelle. They’re the primary motivation for her spending so much time in the United States, where Hawton hopes to take advantage of this short window of opportunity while it’s open.

CARSON, Calif. - In the opening bout, lightweight Rene Moreno (2-0, 1 KO) dropped David Courtney twice en route to a fourth round knockout victory. Moreno dropped the southpaw Courtney towards the end of the second round with a left hook to the body. Moreno battered Courtney (3-9, 2 KOs) in round three until a right hook to the head shook Moreno as the bell sounded to end the round. Moreno dropped Courtney again in round four with another left hook to the body. Courtney beat the count but referee Dr. Lou Moret stopped the bout at 1:44.
