Liam Williams: record, next fight and profile →
BRITISH MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMPION Liam Williams is tipping former foe Mark Heffron to 'chin' Denzel Bentley when the pair's eagerly awaited collision comes around on Saturday night, live on BT Sport.
Liam Williams could be forced to pull out of his next fight. The Welshman is set to return to the ring next month in a mandatory defence of his British middleweight title. Williams, 28, is the mandatory challenger to Demetrius Andrade’s WBO world title in the 160-pound division and his promoter, Frank Warren, wanted to keep him busy while waiting for the shot at the American.
Liam Williams is chomping at the bit to box again. The Welshman is the WBO’s mandatory challenger for middleweight champion Demetrius Andrade but hasn’t fought since a December 21 win over Alantez Fox although he’s been vocal calling out big names while waiting for his shot.
Middleweight 'Machine' Liam Williams has signed a new long-term promotional agreement with Frank Warren and Queensberry Promotions. Williams, 28, has bludgeoned his way into mandatory position for a shot at the world title held by Demetrius Andrade off the back of four blistering wins since stepping up to middleweight in December 2018 and becoming a two-weight British champion following a one-sided demolition of the previously unbeaten Mark Heffron.
Demetrius Andrade hopes to finally get to face bitter rival Billy Joe Saunders when boxing returns – and told Matchroom Boxing’s Podcast ‘The Lockdown Tapes’ that he would ‘bust up’ the Brit if they clashed.
Liam Williams aims to end 2020 as the latest world champion to come out of Wales – but what’s he really like? Perhaps unfairly tagged ‘the angriest man in boxing’, ‘The Machine’ has blasted his way to the top of the WBO rankings and is targeting a clash with world champion Demetrius Andrade as soon as possible.
Liam Williams has won six straight fights since losing a 12-round majority decision to former WBO junior middleweight champ Liam Smith. Williams won each of those bouts by knockout or technical knockout. His last victim, Alantez Fox, went 12 rounds with Demetrius Andrade in a fight Fox lost by unanimous decision in October 2017.
Frank Warren, promoter for middleweight contender Liam Williams, is hoping to bring his mandatory fight with WBO world champion Demetrius Andrade to the UK. Andrade is promoted by Warren's bitter promotional rival, Eddie Hearn.
The near two-year period that Liam Williams has spent working under trainer Dominic Ingle has been a transformative one. The 27-year-old Welshman made the difficult decision to leave Gary Lockett’s stable in the summer of 2018 citing that he “needed to change things within my team and freshen things up”.
It’s not the fight that Demetrius Andrade wanted next, though it certainly beats not fighting at all. BoxingScene.com has learned that the undefeated middleweight titlist has entered negotiations for a title defense versus Wales’ Liam Williams, with such bout to be credited with honoring his mandatory challenger obligations.
