At the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, former WBC super bantamweight world champion Rey Vargas (35-0, 22 KOs) showed no signs of ring rust in his first fight in over two years, cruising to a unanimous decision over Leonardo Báez (21-5, 12 KOs) in a Mexico vs. Mexico matchup in the second fight of the telecast.
LAS VEGAS – Rey Vargas effectively returned from a long layoff Saturday night. Vargas was busier and more accurate against Leonardo Baez for most of their 10-round featherweight fight on the Canelo Alvarez-Caleb Plant undercard at MGM Grand Garden Arena. They didn’t exactly excite the early-arriving crowd, but Vargas convincingly won this battle between Mexican combatants by unanimous decision.

LAS VEGAS – Canelo Alvarez and Caleb Plant were kept apart again after they weighed in Friday afternoon at MGM Grand Garden Arena. Fearful of another brawl on stage, organizers of their Showtime Pay-Per-View main event separated the super middleweight champions from the time they arrived until the time they left. They jawed at each other from several feet away, with promoter Tom Brown, event security and even Mike Tyson between them.

Three high-stakes matchups featuring former world champions, top contenders and rising future champions have been added to the highly anticipated SHOWTIME PPV event headlined by Canelo Álvarez and Caleb “Sweethands” Plant battling for the undisputed super middleweight championship on Saturday, November 6 in a Premier Boxing Champions event from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
Carlos Caraballo entered the night with questions regarding his career potential and made a major statement when all was said and done. An intended step up in class turned out to be a showcase performance for the unbeaten Boricua, who demolished Mexicali’s Leonardo Baez inside of four rounds. Ponce’s Caraballo floored Baez in round two before pouring on the attack in forcing the stoppage at 2:36 of round four in their NBC Sports Network-televised bout Thursday evening in at Plaza del Quinto Centenario in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico.
