WHEN I LOOK down our stacked card for the bumper show at the Copper Box Arena on Saturday I am convinced that it features a good number of future world champions.

Aidos Yerbossynuly knocked out Lennox Allen in the tenth round to win their World Boxing Association (WBA) super middleweight eliminator, which was held on Sunday night at the Nursultan Jekpe-Jek Arena in Astana, Kazakhstan.

FOX’s telecast Saturday night was the most-watched boxing broadcast in the United States since the sport returned to television June 9. Nielsen Media Research revealed Tuesday that the main event of FOX’s three-bout broadcast, Jamal James’ victory over Thomas Dulorme, drew an average audience of 1,076,000 and a peak audience of 1,224,000 at the beginning of their 12-round, 147-pound title fight at Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. Before Saturday night, ESPN’s show June 9 drew the biggest audience of any boxing broadcast since the sport ended nearly a three-month break caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

David Morrell Jr. didn’t need a developmental stage to prepare himself for the contender level. The former amateur star from Cuba put the super middleweight division on notice following a one-sided unanimous decision win over Brooklyn’s Lennox Allen. Judges Dr. Lou Moret (120-108), Fernando Villareal (119-109) and Steve Morrow (118-110) all scored the bout heavily in favor of Morrell in the Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) on Fox televised opener Saturday evening at Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California.

Lennox Allen views his next ring opportunity as his shot at becoming an overnight success story that’s been 16 years in the making. It’s been nearly as long since a boxer from his native Guyana has laid claim to a major title, a trend he hopes to reverse. A big step toward that goal will come in the form of a showdown versus David Morrell Jr. (2-0, 2KOs) in a Fox-televised clash for the interim version of the WBA super middleweight title.

Thomas Dulorme and Jamal James made weight Friday almost four months after they initially were supposed to fight. Minneapolis’ James officially weighed 145.8 pounds for their 12-round, 147-pound title fight Saturday night at Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. Las Vegas’ Dulorme stepped on the California State Athletic Commission’s scale at 146.2 pounds.

By Keith Idec - The two interim title fights the WBA has approved for Saturday night in Los Angeles are two of the more egregious examples of the unscrupulous organization’s never-ending need to scam sanctioning fees out of boxers and promoters. As if allowing an interim welterweight title bout between Jamal James and Thomas Dulorme weren’t questionable enough...
