Lee Selby Dominates Gradovich, Captures IBF Crown

O2 Arena, London - Lee Selby (21-1, 8KOs) put on the performance of his career, with a eight round technical decision over previously undefeated Evgeny Gradovich (19-1-1, 9KOs) to capture the IBF featherweight championship. The scores were 79-73, 80-72 and 79-73. Selby was putting on a master class boxing lesson the early rounds, using movement and picking off Gradovich as he came inside. Gradovich was coming forward, throwing a lot of shots and making the fight continue at a very high pace.

On Saturday, IBF featherweight champion Evgeny Gradovich (19-0-1, 9KOs) will look to successfully defend his title for the 5th time when he faces his mandatory challenger Lee Selby (28-1, 8KOs) in London at the O2 Arena. Gradovich last fought in November when he had a draw against Jayson Velez in an HBO televised fight. Velez (22-0-1, 16KOs) will also return to the ring for the first time since that fight on June 4th against Daniel Ramirez. While Velez is focused on Ramirez, he says that a rematch against Gradovich is still a priority for him.

There was a bit of late drama at today’s weigh-in for Eddie Hearn’s O2 Arena show. Defending WBC lightweight champion Jorge Linares missed the division limit by 4ozs and was given just one an hour to get down to 135lbs or forfeit his WBC title. Kevin Mitchell, the challenger, hit the scales at 9st 8lbs 4ozs. Linares came back just over 10-minutes later and weighed in at 134.1lbs.
