Barros Eyes Hunter For IBF Eliminator To Get Lee Selby

Former WBA world featherweight champion Jonathan "Yoni" Barros (39-4-1, 22 KOs) is looking to get a fight against Eric Hunter (21- 3, 11 KOs), in order to crown a mandatory challenger to the current featherweight champion of the International Boxing Federation (IBF), Lee Selby. Barros is ranked at number 5, while Hunter is 4th. The number three position is held by Abner Mares who faces Leo Santa Cruz in September. The number one and two positions are both vacant.

Egis Klimas, manager of WBO featherweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko (4-1, 2KOs) of Ukraine, is looking at two potential opponents for his fighter's next return - which is being discussed for a November date in Dubai. One of the opponents in the mix is former champion Simpiwe Vetyeka (27-3, 16KOs) of South Africa. He lost a technical decision to Nonito Donaire last year and bounced back in December with a twelve round decision victory over Arturo Reyes.

Former champion Evgeny Gradovich (19-1-1) is looking for an immediate rematch with Lee Selby (21-1, 8KOs). The boxers met on May 30th in Selby's backyard at the O2 Arena in London. The fight was stopped in the eight round, due to a cut suffered by Gradovich, and sent to the scorecards. Selby won an eight round technical decision with scores of 80-72, 79-73 and 79-73 - and he also walked away with Gradovich's IBF featherweight championship.

Undefeated Puerto Rican featherweight contender Jayson Velez (23-0-1, 16KOs) is ready for another world title shot. Last year he fought to a draw with then IBF champion Evgeny Gradovich, who was recently dethroned by mandatory challenger Lee Selby. Velez was in action last Thursday night at the Belasco Theater in Los Angeles, California, and picked up a decision victory over Daniel Ramirez. It was a stay busy fight for Velez, who had not been in action since the November fight with Gradovich. Velez got in good work, dropping Ramirez in the second and going the ten round distance to win off of unanimous tallies of 98-91, 98-91 and 99-90.

Evgeny Gradovich is not is bad spirits after losing his undefeated record, and his IBF featherweight championship, to Lee Selby via an eight round technical decision on Saturday night at the O2 Arena in London. The scores were 80-72 and 79-73 twice. The fight was stopped after a clash of heads that opened up a cut on Grandovich. He felt the cut wasn't serious and it wasn't bothering him. The doctor and the referee disagreed and stopped the match.

Because the injury was caused by an accidental foul, the fight was sent to the scorecards, and Selby was awarded the victory and the IBF featherweight crown with unanimous scores of 79-73, 80-72, 79-73.
