WBA/IBO junior middleweight champion Erislandy Lara (23-2-2, 13KOs) is ready and waiting to get a crack at WBC/WBA/IBO/IBF middleweight champion Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin (35-0, 32KOs).
Two weeks ago in Las Vegas, Lara set the record straight with Vanes Martirosyan by picking up a twelve round unanimous decision. They had previously fought to a nine round technical draw.
Lara, unable to find challenges at junior middleweight, is wiling to move in weight to face the biggest names at middleweight.
The Cuban fighter also wants to avenge a twelve round split decision loss to Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez. Lara believes he was robbed in the contest and wants the opportunity to make things right.
Lara says the fans and the critics will eventually get exhausted with Golovkin's overmatched opponents and demand he face a live dog who has a realistic chance to upset the odds.
Golovkin is in talks to face Canelo in the fall. Lara doubts the fight will ever happen. He predicts Canelo will move away from Golovkin and accept a much easier assignment.
"I am calm because I'm doing the best I can to keep winning, but it is no secret that you have someone right here who is not afraid to fight Gennady Golovkin, I think I am a fighter who can make things complicated for him - in the same manner as I did for Canelo and I can complicate things for Daniel Jacobs as well - those are three big names that I want for my career," Lara told ESPN Deportes.
"This is not a situation like Guillermo Rigondeaux or Yuriorkis Gamboa. We have taken all kinds of challenges, we have faced the best and now those [fighters who claim to be the best] do not want to face us. I think people are going to get tired of Golovkin taking these easy opponents and he will have to fight me."
