Amir Khan (31-3, 19KOs) says his team is still in deep negotiations for a fight with eight division world champion Manny Pacquiao (57-6-2, 38KOs) in the early part of 2016.

Khan is one of the leading candidates to face Pacquiao in what is being touted as the Filipino star's final career fight.

The two boxers once trained side by side, and often sparred, when Freddie Roach was their mutual trainer. Khan left Roach in 2012 and hired trainer Virgil Hunter.

For the last three years, Khan tried his best to get a fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr., who continuously took a pass at facing the British boxer.

After Mayweather announced his retirement in September, Khan turned his attention to a fight with Pacquiao.

"Talks are going really well. They (Pacquiao's team) are speaking to my team, I have just left it to my team. I fight anybody who is brought in front of me. If it's Manny Pacquiao, it's Manny Pacquiao if not then somebody else. But we are still waiting for response on what's going to happen. That's why I took a little break and came to India just to get away from all that because negotiating for a fight is not easy," Khan told the Indian media.
