By Keith Idec - Jose Zepeda produced as expected Tuesday night. Jose Zepeda’s preference was to beat a powerful former IBF junior welterweight champion in ESPN’s main event Tuesday night. Once Ivan Baranchyk suffered a rib injury during sparring last week, Zepeda simply hoped an entire training camp wouldn’t go to waste. Initially, Argentine southpaw Marcelino Lopez agreed to replace Baranchyk on about 10 days’ notice.
Kendo Castaneda considers himself a modern-day “Cinderella Man.” Boxing hasn’t been profitable enough to become his sole source of income since Castaneda turned pro in October 2012. For about six hours each morning, starting at 4 a.m., Castaneda loads and unloads trucks at a FedEx facility in his hometown of San Antonio.

Zepeda stepped on the Nevada State Athletic Commission’s scale at 143¾ pounds as well for a main event ESPN will televise from MGM Grand Conference Center.

Yomar Alamo found his way back into the win column both in the ring and with home viewers. The unbeaten junior welterweight prospect saw a significant spike in viewership for his most recent Telemundo appearance, topping the February 28 show which averaged 396,000 viewers according to Nielsen Media Research. Alamo came up aces in the main event, scoring a 10-round majority decision over previously undefeated Kendo Castañeda live from Osceola Heritage Park in Kissimmee, Florida.
This time around, Yomar Alamo remembered to close the show. A skillful boxing lesson delivered by the unbeaten Caguas, Puerto Rico native offset the two-fisted straightforward attack of San Antonio’s Kendo Castañeda in their Telemundo-aired headliner Friday evening at Osceola Heritage Park in Kissimmee, Florida. Alamo claimed a 10-round majority decision in the main event to defend his 140-pound regional title in a battle of unbeaten prospects.
