By Thomas Hauser - At a January 18 press conference at Barclays Center to announce the March 4 championship bout between Keith Thurman and Danny Garcia, Angel Garcia (who trains his son) called Keith Thurman a “n*gg*r” (or “n*gga” or both). Angel didn’t use asterisks when he spoke. But this website has...
Danny Garcia isn’t about to apologize for his father’s controversial actions at a press conference last month. When asked Tuesday about Angel Garcia’s vile verbal attack on Keith Thurman during the January 18 press conference to officially announce their March 4 fight, Danny Garcia said he has seen worse behavior at press conferences and that freedom of speech in America affords his father/trainer to say what he wants.
Danny Garcia has started to wind down his training camp for March 4th’s huge welterweight unification bout with Keith Thurman. With the hard work coming to a close, Garcia is confident the game plan laid out by his team will be executed, with one tactic targeting Thurman’s body.
WBC welterweight champion Danny Garcia (33-0, 19 KOs) believes a win over WBA champion Keith Thurman (27-0, 22 KOs) is the final piece of the puzzle in becoming the next superstar of the sport. Garcia and Thurman will collide on March 4th from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. CBS will televised the fight.
WBC welterweight champion Danny "Swift" Garcia is planning to do a number on the man he calls his "enemy" - WBA welterweight champion Keith "One Time" Thurman. Keith Thurman has taunted Danny Garcia ahead of their much anticipated WBC and WBA world title unification showdown on March 4th insisting: “You ain’t fought a real welterweight!” Garcia embarks on his second year in the 147 lbs division with Thurman undoubtedly his toughest test up at the weight during this time frame.
PHILADELPHIA – Danny Garcia is looking forward to testing Keith Thurman to the body. Thurman (27-0, 22 KOs) has been hurt by body shots during his career, most memorably against Luis Collazo in a July 2015 fight Thurman eventually won by technical knockout. That isn’t lost on Garcia (33-0, 19 KOs) as he prepares for their March 4 welterweight championship unification fight at Barclays Center in Brooklyn (CBS).
PHILADELPHIA – Angel Garcia knows the odds on his son’s fight against Keith Thurman. Danny Garcia’s father/trainer also knows his son has won countless fights he was supposed to lose from the time he was a young kid growing up in the rough Juniata Park neighborhood in North Philly. Thus the fact that handicappers have installed Thurman as about a 2½-to-1 favorite over Danny Garcia doesn’t faze the polarizing Angel Garcia one bit.
Keith Thurman is counting down the days until his welterweight unification with Danny Garcia. The fight takes place on Saturday, March 4 from Barclays Center from Brooklyn, live on CBS from 9-11 p.m. ET/6-8 p.m. PT. Garcia (33-0, 19 KOs) and Thurman (27-0, 22 KOs) will be the first welterweight unification between undefeated fighters since the 1999 clash between Felix Trinidad and Oscar De La Hoya.
PHILADELPHIA – If the New York State Athletic Commission suspends Angel Garcia, Danny Garcia will pull out of his fight against Keith Thurman. Danny Garcia told BoxingScene.com following a media workout Wednesday at his gym that he won’t fight Thurman without his father/trainer in his corner. Angel Garcia revealed earlier Wednesday that he will meet with the NYSAC sometime in the week before Danny Garcia’s March 4 fight against Thurman to discuss his boorish behavior during a press conference to officially announce the bout January 18 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
