Keith Thurman: record, next fight and profile →
LONDON - Welterweight ace Keith Thurman has warned fellow champion Danny Garcia he will be his toughest fight yet. The unbeaten pair clash this weekend, exclusively live on BoxNation, in what is one of the most eagerly anticipated fights of the year as Floridian Thurman puts his WBA world title on the line against WBC champion Garcia.
Angel Garcia proudly holds up a poster promoting his son’s 147-pound title unification bout with Keith Thurman, and points to Thurman being on the left side of the poster, as favorite, or the so-called “A-side” fighter in the match-up. It’s not viewed as a slight within the Garcia camp. The underdog role – the “B-side” – is one that Danny Garcia has come to embrace on the path to multiple world titles and a 33-0 professional record. It’s tough to be a B-side when you’ve put together the résumé that Danny Garcia has in 10 years as a professional. But this fight provided the opportunity, and Angel Garcia insists that he wanted it that way.
Lamont Peterson is coming off a long layoff — 16 months between his controversial victory over Felix Diaz in 2015 and his clear win over David Avanesyan earlier in February. That victory earned him the World Boxing Association’s “regular” world title, which gives him a mandatory shot at the upcoming unification bout between Keith Thurman (who has the WBA’s “super” title) and Danny Garcia (who has the World Boxing Council belt).
Danny Garcia thinks there is much more at stake against Keith Thurman than their welterweight titles. With Floyd Mayweather Jr. retired and Manny Pacquiao not far behind him, Garcia considers his 147-pound championship unification fight against Thurman a prime opportunity to become boxing’s next welterweight star. It doesn’t hurt, obviously, that their fight Saturday night at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center likely will be watched by millions more people on CBS than if Showtime or HBO were to televise it.
By Thomas Gerbasi - Saturday night, Keith Thurman returns to Brooklyn’s Barclays Center to face Danny Garcia in what most would say is the biggest fight of his career. The WBA welterweight champion doesn’t necessarily agree. “I actually put it in my head and say it’s nothing special,” Thurman said. What? Two unb...
Only a few days remain before the welterweight unification between WBA champion Keith Thurman and WBC beltholder Danny Garcia. The two boxers will meet on Saturday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, with CBS broadcasting the contest live.
Boxing Hall of Famer and former undisputed welterweight world champion Sugar Ray Leonard will join the SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING on CBS broadcast team on Saturday, March 4 for GARCIA vs. THURMAN. The event will be headlined by the welterweight world championship unification bout between undefeated champions Danny Garcia and Keith Thurman. Danny Garcia gave up thinking about pound-for-pound lists, official odds on his fights and people’s opinions of his boxing career long ago. The WBC world welterweight champion came to accept that no matter what he does, his critics will dissect his closest calls more than they’ll emphasize the impressive victories that have placed Philadelphia’s Garcia in the prominent position he occupies.
It proved a tight call when Glynn Evans canvassed the cognoscenti to pick a winner between unbeaten welterweight titans Danny Garcia and Keith Thurman who clash for all the 147lb marbles at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on March 4th. BoxNation, of course, shall be screening live.
WBA welterweight champion Keith Thurman has brushed off all of the statements that were made in his direction by Angel Garcia, who is father and head trainer of WBC champion Danny Garcia.
