Katie Taylor will enter her 2024 campaign with at least two fewer belts in tow.

BoxingScene.com has confirmed that the legendary Irishwoman has officially vacated both her WBO and IBF lightweight titles. The decision came after a delayed process when summoned by the WBO to inform whether she planned to return to lightweight or if she will campaign at the junior welterweight division.

Caroline Dubois and Rhiannon Dixon were already ordered to enter talks for an ordered vacant IBF lightweight title fight. The WBO has yet to declare next steps for the now vacant lightweight title.

Taylor held undisputed championship status at both weights but now appears prepared to defend her fully unified junior welterweight crown. She still holds the WBA and WBC titles at both weights, and was not yet ordered by other sanctioning body to yet make a decision on which belts she plans to defend.

The 37-year-old pound-for-pound entrant from Bray, Ireland became a two-division undisputed championship after a ten-round, majority decision victory over England’s Chantelle Cameron last November 25 at 3Arena in Dublin. The feat saw Taylor (23-1, 6KOs) avenge her lone career defeat, when Cameron ruined her long overdue Ireland homecoming at the same venue last May 20.

However, her current status of overseeing two weight divisions was a violation of 5 of the WBO Regulations of World Championship Contests. The regulation states that no WBO champion can hold its titles in more than one weight division at a time. The WBO called for a decision from Taylor last December, though an extension was granted—originally for 15 days but which ran through the year-end holidays.

Taylor was faced with a similar decision following her WBO junior welterweight title win over Christina Linardatou. She entered their November 2019 meeting as the undefeated and undisputed lightweight champion with the intention of a one-off move up in weight. She outpointed Linardatou over ten rounds to become a two-division titlist but immediately vacated the 140-pound belt to resume her lightweight championship reign.

The decision made by Taylor to keep her unified 140-pound crown fully intact fuels speculation of a potential rubber match versus Cameron. Both fighters have publicly declared a willingness to immediately enter such a fight, for which Taylor publicly requested to take place at the much larger Croke Park to satisfy overwhelming ticket demand.
