Katie Taylor says she has been protected from the ‘chaos and madness’ back home in Ireland during her training camp in Connecticut.
Taylor is preparing for her first ever professional fight on home soil on May 20 when she takes on undisputed super-lightweight champion Chantelle Cameron at the 3Arena in Dublin.
Given Taylor's popularity, there has been a scramble for tickets while it has been reported that hotel prices in the Irish capital have also rocketed due to demand.
But Taylor has not had to deal with any friends or family requests as she locked herself away at her usual training camp across the Atlantic in Connecticut.
She told BoxingScene.com: “I definitely think it’s important to get yourself out of the chaos and madness of so many people wanting to drag you everywhere back home.
“The peace and quiet out here is amazing and it’s a great environment for training and it’s one of the reasons I’ve loved this place so much.
“There is nothing to do over here other than train, it’s in the middle of nowhere. It’s a superb place to focus on the actual fight and to get a bit of headspace.”
Taylor has been doing her training camps in Connecticut ever since she turned professional in 2016 after initially reaching out to coach Ross Enamait on Twitter back in 2016.
Enamait has since helped steer Taylor to the undisputed lightweight title over the course of her 22-fight professional career.
She added: “Nowadays this place feels like my home away from home.
“I miss my family from time to time but it’s very easy to keep in touch nowadays. But this is a great place and I love it over here.
“I think it’s the perfect spot for me, it suits my personality - the tranquility over here. You very rarely see even a car driving by, that’s how quiet it is.
“There is some life outside; restaurants, cafes and cinemas. There is stuff to do and I have a great community of people here so I have a great life outside the gym too.”
