Julian Smith: record, next fight and profile →
Michel Rivera cemented a split decision win over Hugo Roldan while Julian Smith got a similar result in a potential upset of the year over Shohjahon Ergashev in Detroit on Saturday.
Claressa Shields and Vanessa Lepage-Joanisse both made weight Friday for their title fight set for Saturday at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit.
The undercard for the Salita Promotions July 27 show - topped by Claressa Shields challenging WBC heavyweight titlist Vanessa Lepage-Joanisse - is taking shape. Junior welterweight contender Michel Rivera (25-1, 14 KOs) takes on Hugo Alberto Roldan (22-2-1, 7 KOs) over 10 rounds and, in the same division and over the same distance, southpaw Shohjahon Ergashev (24-1, 21 KOs) will be favored to beat Julian Smith (8-2, 5 KOs).
Michel Rivera will face Hugo Alberto Roldan in a co-featured bout at the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit on July 27, as the card headlined by Claressa Shields' challenge for Vanessa Lepage-Joanisse's heavyweight belt takes shape.
Julian Smith provided an early entrant for 2024 Upset of the Year with a stunningly one-sided stoppage win over previously unbeaten Orestes Velazquez. Smith—a legally deaf boxer from the greater Chicago area—scored four knockdowns on the night and Velazquez’s corner pulled the plug after the ninth round of their DAZN-aired co-feature Friday evening from Caribe Royale Resort in Orlando, Florida.
