The winner of Zab Judah (42-8, 29KOs) vs. Paulie Malignaggi (32-5, 7KOs) will have a lot of options, according to Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer. Judah-Malignaggi takes place on December 7th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
Golden Boy has no shortage of welterweights, and the Judah-Malignaggi winner could find himself in lucrative opportunity in 2014. Among the possibilities - a fight with Robert Guerrero, the winner of Devon Alexander's defense of the IBF title against Shawn Porter on November 30 - or the winner of Adrien Broner's defense of the WBA title against Marcos Maidana, which takes place on December 14.
"Maybe Robert Guerrero, maybe the winner of Alexander and Porter, maybe the winner of Broner and Madaina. If Zab wins, maybe a rematch with Danny Garcia - if he moves up to welterweight," Schaefer said to BoxingScene.com.
For the winner of the IBF junior middleweight title bout between Carlos Molina (22-5-2, 6KOs) and Victor Ortiz (29-4-2, 22KOs), Schaefer says there are also many options, as Golden Boy has an army of fighters at 154. Among those options is a huge financial opportunity - a fight with Saul "Canelo" Alvarez. Or the winner of Erislandy Lara vs. Austin Trout, taking place on December - or Alfredo Angulo, who fights on the same Showtime pay-per-view undercard as Molina-Ortiz, which takes place on December 14 from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, and headlined by Broner-Maidana.
"It could be, it could be [the winner will be in the mix for a fight with Canelo] or maybe a fight with Alfredo Angulo who fights on the card with Jorge Melendez or the winner of Lara and Trout," Schaefer said.
