Marquez Focused To Land Bradley Rematch in Mexico

Former four division world champion Juan Manuel Marquez (55-7-1, 40KOs) is not ready to hang up the gloves just yet. Marquez, 40-years-old, is motivated to secure a rematch with WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley (31-0, 12KOs). Last month at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Bradley won a close twelve round split decision over Marquez. Although most experts saw Bradley as the clear winner, Marquez felt he was robbed and wants a rematch to set things straight.

Bradley-Marquez Sold 10.6K Tickets, Had $3M Gate

The Oct. 12 fight between Timothy Bradley and Juan Manuel Marquez sold 10,683 tickets and did a gate of $2,998,950, according to figures provided by Keith Kizer of the Nevada State Athletic Commission. That’s an average of $280.72 per ticket sold. The card, held at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas, also had 1,370 tickets given away for free. Another 5,649 tickets went unsold.

On October 12th at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Bradley won a twelve round split decision over Marquez. After the match, Marquez and his trainer Nacho Beristain felt they were robbed and demanded a rematch.

Ruslan Provodnikov (23-2, 16 KOs), the newly crowned WBO light welterweight champion, is back home following his historical win over Mike Alvarado in another sample of his irresistible fistic fire. Provodnikov landed in Moscow, earlier this week, and today has relocated to his second hometown of Yekaterinburg. Ruslan’s little Homeland – his native town of Berezovo – awaits its Mansi hero later this month. Provodnikov will hold a presser tomorrow in the Uralic Citadel. Fresh of landing the Siberian Rocky, who is atop of the recent HBO’s Gatti List, had little to say about his plans but indicated he wishes to fight at home. “I’m willing to fight for my Russian fans on a native soil”, the proud Mansi said. “I wish it won’t be in Moscow but in my homeland”.

Manny Pacquiao wasn’t surprised when he found out Timothy Bradley out-boxed Juan Manuel Marquez on Oct. 12 in Las Vegas. “I didn’t watch the fight with Marquez and Bradley, but I heard what happened,” Pacquiao said on a conference call Thursday from his training camp in the Philippines. “I already predicted that Bradley would win the fight, so I’m not surprised with what happened.” Pacquiao (54-5-2, 38 KOs) also said he hasn’t given much thought to whether he would want a fifth fight against Marquez or a rematch against Bradley after boxing Brandon Rios (31-1-1, 23 KOs) in an HBO Pay-Per-View main event Nov. 23 in Macau, China. Marquez knocked Pacquiao unconscious in the sixth round of their Dec. 8 bout in Las Vegas, but Bradley (31-0, 12 KOs, 1 NC) owns a very controversial split-decision win over Pacquiao and is more marketable after overcoming Mexico’s Marquez (55-7-1, 40 KOs) by split decision in their 12-round fight for Bradley’s WBO welterweight title.

Juan Manuel Marquez (55-7-1, 40KOs) plans to pursue a rematch with WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley (31-0-1, 12KOs). Marquez felt he was robbed a few weeks ago when Bradley was awarded a twelve round split decision at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas. Marquez, 40 years-old, also felt he was robbed against Manny Pacquiao when he fought the Filipino star to a draw in 2004. He made a career mission to get revenge on Pacquiao, and that mission resulted in three more fights between the two.

Bradley, Marquez and 30 Others Test Negative in Nevada

All 32 fighters who appeared on boxing cards held Oct. 11 and Oct. 12 in Las Vegas came up negative for the banned substances tested for in Nevada’s drug-screening panel, according to an email from state athletic commission Executive Director Keith Kizer. In addition, the headliners of the Oct. 12 show — Timothy Bradley and Juan Manuel Marquez — were also negative under additional, enhanced testing done for their bout, according to a report by Kelsey McCarson of TheSweetScience.com. “Kizer said each fighter was randomly tested four times (both blood and urine) during the NSAC program, and that Carbon Isotope Radiation (CIR) screening to detect the use of synthetic testosterone was done on half of the urine samples collected. No synthetic testosterone was discovered in either fighter,” McCarson wrote.

Former four division world champion Juan Manuel Marquez is confident he won at least seven of his twelve rounds against Timothy Bradley last Saturday night at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas. Two judges had it 116-112 and 115-113 for Bradley, and the third scored 115-113 for Marquez. Before Saturday's fight even took place, Marquez and his trainer Nacho Beristain made allegations that Bradley would use his head as a weapon in fights. Within the first two rounds, Marquez claims Bradley butted him four times and the referee did not intervene.

Top Rank promoter Bob Arum believes that if the WBO welterweight title fight in which Timothy “Desert Storm” Bradley beat Juan Manuel Marquez by a twelve round split decision was held in the Eastern United States, Marquez would have won by seven rounds to five. In a conversation with BoxingScene.com/Manila Standard about the griping of Marquez and trainer “Nacho” Beristain about the decision, Arum said that Marquez may be losing fans because of his griping but that “when Mexicans score a fight and in the US East they would have scored the fight for Marquez because he landed the more telling blows and was continuously the aggressor.” In the West Arum said “Bradley would have won because he landed more punches.”
