WBO #2 super featherweight Andrey Klimov (19-1, 9 KOs) continued his road to an occasional title shot with a dominating unanimous decision over Mexican champion Gabino Cota (16-3-1, 14 KOs). Cota was no match to sharp but light-punching Klimov, who almost stopped the rugged Mexican in rounds six and eight. However, the Russian still lacks one finishing touch to get the job done.

Former junior welterweight titleholder Ruslan Provodnikov made weight for his bout Friday night in Moscow against Jose Luis Castillo, coming in at 146.6 pounds while Castillo, the highly faded former lightweight champ, came in at 146.2. Provodnikov is coming off a split decision loss to Chris Algieri in June, a defeat that left him without the belt he had won at 140 pounds over Mike Alvarado last year. Castillo has pickd up two wins since dropping a decision to Antwone Smith in early 2013.

Ahmat Arena, Grozny, Russia - Five years since he lost his WBA heavyweight title, The "White Tyson" Ruslan Chagaev (33-2-1, 20 KOs) is once again a world champion (a regular one) under the very same version of the heavyweight championship. WBA #3 Chagaev, 35, scored a very-hard fought but not particularly spectacular majority decision over WBA #4 Puerto Rican Fres Oquendo (37-8, 24 KOs), six years his elder, with Evander Holyfield, Sultan Ibragimov, Marco Huck, David Haye and Kostya Tszyu (among others) looking on from their ringside positions at the Ahmat Arena in Grozny.

Most eyes will, of course, be on Ruslan Chagaev and Fres Oquendo on July 6th in Grozny when the two ring veterans meet for the vacant WBA world heayvweight championship. But there is another big name in the co-feature who wants to get back to old stardom: "The Black Panther" Juan Carlos Gomez faces unbeaten Goran Delic for the WBA International cruiserweight title. "I am looking forward to this big fight and especially to fighting in Grozny", says Gomez. "I heard only good things about the city and the people down there. I know that I have lots of friends and fans in Russia. So this will be a special night for me."

The undercard to Ruslan Chagaev vs Fres Oquendo in Grozny (Russia) July 6 features former WBC cruiserweight champion and heavyweight contender Juan Carlos Gomez (54-3). Gomez is now back to cruiser and is again trained by Fritz Sdunek, who trained the Black Panther in his early days with Universum.

Hungary - Zsolt Erdei said "farewell" to boxing with the same type of performance that he's given to the fight game during his thirteen-year long professional career -methodically, one-sidedly and extremely boring. In his last fight, the Hungarian master hardly showed any glimpses of greatness, instead giving no chance to Georgian import Shalva Jomardashvili (36-7-2, 27 KOs) over ten tedious rounds. Erdei moved well, used jabs and uppercuts, hurt his foe a couple of times but the fight was way far from being finished prematurely. Scores were announced in Hungarian. BoxingScene had it 100-90 - for the Hungarian master.

Aging but still good former WBC cruiserweight champion Juan Carlos Gomez (53-3) takes on Croatian Ivica Bacurin (17-4-1) on March 8 in Kecsemet (Hungary) in a supporting bout to Zsolt Erdei´s farewell fight against Shalva Jomardashvili, Gomez vs Bacurin is for the vacant WBO Int´l title.

According to Rakhim Chakhkiev’s manager Vyacheslav Karakash, his protégé, rated #1 in the recent WBC cruiserweight rankings, has a fixed plan for 2014. A new route starts for Chakhkiev (17-1, 13 KOs) on March 15 in Moscow, Russia, with the most possible opponent being WBC #5 Silvio Branco (63-11-3, 37 KOs) of Italy. The fight will fall into a huge card, promoted by Andrey Ryabinskiy.
