Josue Vargas: record, next fight and profile →
NEW YORK – Dakota Linger was brought to Madison Square Garden’s Hulu Theater to help make Josue Vargas look good Saturday night before a throng of supportive Puerto Rican fans.
The last time Alexis Angulo weighed in for a televised main event, it was his opponent, David Benavidez, who came in nearly three pounds overweight for their 12-round, 168-pound title fight.
On the eve of the Puerto Rican Day Parade in New York City, the island nation’s brightest stars are coming to throw down. Edgar “The Chosen One” Berlanga, the flashy super middleweight knockout artist, will defend his NABO belt in the 10-round main event against two-time world title challenger Alexis Angulo.
(Video by Ryan Burton) - Josue Vargas picked up a win on the undercard of Jeremiah Nakathila's knockout of former world champion Miguel Berchelt in a stunning upset Saturday evening at Resorts World Las Vegas. The fight was stopped after six one-sided rounds. Berchelt was knocked down in the third with a jab and behind on the scorecards at the time of the stoppage (60-53 3x).
Later on tonight at Resorts World, Las Vegas, Miguel Berchelt will fight for the first time since his knockout loss to Oscar Valdez in February, 2021. Standing across the ring from him in their ESPN main event will be Jeremiah Nakathila.
The last time Miguel Berchelt stepped on a scale in Las Vegas, the former WBC super featherweight champion felt drained after making the 130-pound limit.
Boxing’s rising stars are headed to Resorts World Las Vegas. Welterweight U.S. Olympian Tiger Johnson and Puerto Rican junior featherweight contender Carlos “Purin” Caraballo will see action on the Miguel Berchelt-Jeremiah Nakathila undercard Saturday, March 26 at the Resorts World Events Center.
California’s Zepeda made a major statement in hostile territory, twice flooring Josue Vargas en route to a first-round knockout Saturday evening at Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Vargas recovered after a knockdown one minute into the fight, before a barrage of corners left him defenseless and down before the fight was stopped at 1:45 of round one of their junior welterweight contest.
Jose Zepeda would have preferred a more convincing win than the one he claimed in his most recent fight. The fact that his divisional rivals use it to allege that he’s clearly lost a step, however, is something that Zepeda can use to his advantage.
