Joshua Greer Jr. and Jason Moloney were supposed to meet in an important bantamweight bout April 25, but they’ve temporarily taken divergent paths. According to an ESPN.com story Saturday, those 118-pound contenders will face different opponents in upcoming bouts ESPN will televise beginning June 9 from MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Altogether, ESPN.com revealed six main events or co-features Saturday that weren’t previously reported by BoxingScene.com or other outlets.
Naoya Inoue and Johnriel Casimero were supposed to square off Saturday night in what figured to be an entertaining bantamweight title unification fight. Promoter Bob Arum anticipates the Inoue-Casimero postponement lasting long enough due to coronavirus-related travel restrictions that he has started seeking another opponent for Casimero’s next fight. Arum isn’t sure when Inoue will be able to travel from Japan to the United States, thus he might need Casimero to fight someone who already is in the United States once his promotional company is allowed to put on boxing events again.
Joshua Greer Jr. was supposed to spend this week winding down his preparation for a fight against Jason Moloney. ESPN was scheduled to televise the Greer-Moloney match Saturday night as part of the Naoya Inoue-Johnriel Casimero undercard from Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. If Greer and Inoue would’ve won their respective fights, Greer would’ve remained in position to challenge Inoue for his bantamweight titles.
Joshua Greer Jr. had held out hope until early last week that his next fight was scheduled far enough in advance that it still would’ve taken place April 25 in Las Vegas. Like almost every boxer in the sport, however, Greer’s career is on hold while he waits for his fight against Jason Moloney to be rescheduled once the coronavirus pandemic ends. Whenever their bantamweight bout happens, Greer cannot wait to produce the type of performance that he hopes makes 2020 the best year of his career.
Bob Arum announced Monday that all of his promotional company’s cards scheduled for the remainder of March and all of April have been postponed indefinitely due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Bantamweight contender Jason Moloney has the chance to establish his name in front of a worldwide audience as the hard-hitting Australian gets set to clash with Josh Greer on April 25, a fight that falls on Australia's Anzac Day.
A five-foot-five-inch, 118-pound Japanese monster is ready to take over the Las Vegas Strip. WBA/IBF bantamweight world champion Naoya “Monster” Inoue, the three-weight world champion climbing the mythical pound-for-pound rankings, will make his Las Vegas debut Saturday, April 25 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in a unification bout against WBO bantamweight world champion and fellow three-weight kingpin Johnriel Casimero.
